As I have observed dozens of professionals transition into new jobs over the years, one of the key ingredients to their success in a new environment has been the level of communication shared with the new employer. Starting with the interview process, the more forthcoming the hiring company has been, and the fewer negative surprises the new employee experiences, the stronger the commitment and willingness to stick it out through difficult times.
If your company is facing tough…

A common myth in a troubled economy is that recruiting is an easier task because there are so many available (i.e., unemployed) candidates to choose from. It is true that there are more people looking for jobs and conceivably more candidates to choose from – but more people available will not assure you of finding the right person.
Chances are, in this employer's market that you will receive a promising number of responses to a job post, but the chances are slim that you will find…

As the marketplace and economy continue at their snail's pace, it's a challenge to engage in "income-producing activities" (my favorite work term). Playing "catcher" to candidates and selectively choosing job orders is not the way the game's going to be played out right now. And therefore, it's time for this old dog to learn some new tricks.
Searching... I will continue to hone my internet search string capabilities and run searches for candidates whom we particularly place, even if…

With New York State State Assembly announcing that
it will take steps to repeal much of Rockefeller's 1970s-era drug laws which forced judges’ to impose mandatory prison terms for nonviolent drug offenses, I'm thinking that we may have found an untapped pool of talent that has evaded deep web Booleans and good old fashioned telephone names sourcing.
Hello, Warden Lockemup,… Continue

Just recently, a company posted an add on Careerbuilder.com (HR Jobs) on Google Money Profits. I guess there is a business model built around marketing trends based on search engine results. This third-party company is offering a Risk-Free-Trial Kit to make instant Google cash. Has anyone heard of this risk-free trial kit to make fast cash? on Google??

Just this morning I received a request from one of my contacts to write a recommendation for his profile. Although I had met and spoken with this gentleman a few times before I didn't quite know him well enough to write anything but I clicked on his profile out of curiosity all the same. Not very surprisingly he has a lot of recommendations which were likely solicited in a similar manner from his other contacts. What did shock me was the sheer number of them, though - over…

Here's one
new survey that seems to indicate the company executives are bowing to Obama and reconsidering their outsourcing strategies. The report by BDO Seidman, detailed the responses from 100 CFOs from hardware, software, telecommunications and Internet companies nationwide.
Apparently these CFOs are concerned about Obama's position on outsourcing; recall that during his address to Congress last week, he…

Dear Claudia,
Why do some managers insist on measuring everything in the recruiting process? I think that metrics can be demoralizing and can affect a person's way of doing things, sometimes making them less effective. If I know that I can get better results by following my gut instinct, I will do so. Perhaps I will make fewer calls than my cubicle-mate. Should I skew the results by following a prototype of the ideal search? Or should I do what is right?
