A Response From My Hiring Manager

I haven't found many blog posts that allow us to hear the client/managers point of view. Well, look no further because one of mine opened up recently. I wrote a blog post about VMS and it's impact on recruiters and jobseekers. Below is a response from one of my hiring managers. I think this can be helpful to the recruiter and jobseeker alike. It reminds us to never take our clients for granted and always…

Recruiters vs HR...It's Tom & Jerry Time!!!

Recruiters vs HR...it’s as old as, well...the recruitment industry! Like cats and dogs, Tom & Jerry, there seems to be, in the UK certainly, this automatic default position of mistrust.

It’s reared its head again, with blogs appearing, including Bill Boorman’s guest post on Punk Rock HR, and no doubt discussions will be had at HRevolution.

Well I’ll let you in to a secret...it’s always been like this!… Continue

Top Ten Worst CEO Traits

Ever had an awful boss? I'll bet he or she had some or maybe most of these bad traits:

Control Junkie: Has a tough time truly delegating or letting go. Has an opinion about everything.

Being Right: Even if your boss is usually right, it feels bad to think that you are generally wrong.

Rude: Bosses too often fail to say please and thank you, and they don't take the time for basic politeness.

Gives Blame / Takes Credit: Bad… Continue

A Tale of Two Small Businesses

There are two small businesses that I frequent near my Minneapolis suburban home. The first I do so out of loyalty – they rock. The second I visit because my family wants to – despite my ongoing objections. Let’s quickly examine the difference between the two customer experiences and see what they can teach us.

Von Hanson’s Meat Market - http://www.vonhansons.com/ - feels like an old-fashioned butcher shop. The product is excellent and I…

Mobile Recruiting [[moh-beel] [ri-kroot-ing]]

–verb (used with object)

to engage in finding and attracting employees, new members, etc through the medium of Mobile devices connected to the Internet.

Mobile Recruiting Defined

A dictionary style definition of the phrase Mobile Recruiting is not very enlightening. To first understand the phrase lets focus on the word Mobile. What does Mobile refer to in this context?

Why (some) recruiters hate job boards

Oh, to be the new kid on the block! Twitter, Facebook, and the rest of social media are experiencing that thrill – they’re new, exciting, and can do no wrong.

A while back, job boards were the new kids. No more messy newsprint, no more limits on ad length, immediate results – what was not to like? Recruiters flocked to job boards and, in the process,

made many boards very profitable.

But things have changed. Job boards are old news, like those ugly,…

Is the client always right (subtitle: is money more important than manners?)

This week by way of a change, a real life workplace problem for you to get your teeth and business wisdom into.

“The customer is always right”. Or so said Barry Pain (1864-1928) the English journalist, poet and writer. But is he or she?

A situation arose recently at the offices of a business associate of mine. What happened was that one of the more junior members of the team was trying to help a client who wanted some information quite urgently as they were on their way to… Continue

Recruiters! It takes more than raw aggression and low prices!

For all my blog posts please see 'The Savage Truth'

There is one word you will always find in any analysis or even casual discussion about the recruitment industry.

Competition

Get two recruiters or more together, in any setting, and I bet that 90 % of the conversation will be about how competitive its all become and how to beat the competition.

Process is not a dirty word

Conducting a search for a candidate online is faster now than it was five years ago, or is it? Even though more information about potential candidates is on the web, wading through the oodles of web pages is time consuming.

Overloaded with candidates yet still hunting for the right one? Wandering around the web can be inefficient use of time. It all comes down to how much time you have versus where it’s spent.

Also, consider the hectic life of a…

Would You Outsource Your Career Management?

I’m sitting here at 11000m above the ground somewhere between Melbourne and Sydney thinking about career management. Why? You ask. Well late last week one of our consultants received within the space of an hour three emails from three different candidates attaching their CVs and asking politely for meetings with us and for their CVs to be added to our database for consideration for any current and future roles we may be trying to fill.

Nothing unusual in that, you think.
