Congrats, Libby...You're My All-Star Too!

Every now and then I stray, unashamedly, from the work-related stuff. Tonight is one of those occasions. Just had to give some love to my 2nd oldest daughter, who helped lead her softball team to first place in their division. And, she was voted to represent her team in the All-Star Game this weekend.

Yep, I'm a proud Dad. And even if she didn't smash the ball farther than anybody in the league...and, even if she didn't have the best glove in the league...I'd still shower her with… Continue

Everything you wanted to know about placing contractors... just ask!

When I started as a recruiter in 1993, my first job was to develop an IT contract staffing business to complement the agency's existing direct IT placement business. Over the next 3 years, I was able to build a substantial business, and saw the advantages of the contract side of the business. The ongoing, growing revenue stream was the best part.

By 1996, my comp plan was "changed" by the agency owners, (not in my favor). This change pushed me to consider starting my own firm to… Continue

Your Achilles Heels or, Don't Go Near The Water! There's a Very Scary Frog In There...

Everybody has their weakness, that one irrational fear that triggers an uncontrollable-squeal-like-a-little-girl reaction in you. Do you know what I’m talking about? There’s no explaining this fear; it’s primal and undeniable. For some people this fear is manifested in spiders, or snakes, or even squirrels. Mine is frogs.

I’ve always hated frogs, ever since I was a little girl. Strangely and perversely enough, one of my dad’s more “interesting” hobbies was frog jumping. My dad would… Continue

The Recruiting Animal Show

In either the smartest or dumbest move I've made this week, I have accepted an invite to be on The Recruiting Animal show on Wednesday, June 18th.

Although I am just getting into the 12 Rules here I hope to be able to give an overview on them at some point on the show.

I'm sure the Animal will hammer me about something - so for those of you not used to hearing me stammer, you might want to tune in LOL!

All in all, I think it will be a blast. Can't lose when it's… Continue

The Best Father's Day Ever...oh really?!

I'm not sure who came up with this idea of "Father's Day," but since I'm the proud Father of Five, I obviously think it's a brilliant idea.

And, yes, I was treated like a King yesterday. Much thanks to the beautiful Kat for reminding me that being a Father is worth the investment of my time.

We ended the day by loading up the Suburban and hauling the family out to a movie (Kung Fu… Continue

Zen Stories - Jobsabode.com

ZEN STORIES

There were two priests travelling together. One was old and the other young. On the way, they came across a shallow river. A young ravishingly beautiful lady was sitting by the side, waiting for help to cross the river. The old priest without hesitation lifted her up in his arms and carried her over the river. Seeing this, the young priest was much agitated. Once on the other side, he rebuked the elder, questioning his morals, values, etc. This went on frequently, every… Continue

Yahoo! Google - Tactics vs. Strategy

Yahoo! Google - Tactics vs. Strategy

It’s certainly possible the YHOO made the right decision with regards to their newly announced Google deal. They’re smart folks who obviously have deep domain knowledge of their business. Of concern, though, is that this is a tactical but not strategic move. If they were punting on search because they couldn’t match GOOGs ability to capture/structure data that could be a fair concession — they’ve… Continue

Priceless Moments -- Jobsabode.com

Priceless Moments

If you think about it, there are many precious moments in our life. Many of those in all of our lives, are remembered, mostly when you feel lost, but few of us ever recall some f those precious moments when everything is good. We hardly share the good ones with those good people around us. Reasons can be many, but when you do that you will actually increase your personal “goodwill bank balance.” This gives you an opportunity to make those around you feel good for…

Learn this and you'll be way ahead

Even though I don't watch much TV because of the rotting effect it has on your brain, I constantly watch, the show called “The Bourn Vita Quiz Contest,” a very successful knowledge based half hour programme hosted by Derek Obrien, for several years successfully now.

I guess is pretty popular with many kids as well, but this may just be an assumption, then what about the parents, the adults…You sit down to watch it and you will be…

Of Nuts, Bolts, Switches and Rail Tracks - www.jobsabode.com

Of Nuts, Bolts, Switches and Rail Tracks

Many times we compare our life to things around us, and sadly many people compare themselves with the others around them.

Comparing ourselves with other human beings is deplorable, but, looking for some concurrence philosophically about things around us, is not bad at all.

However, one of those comparisons that I often think about is how much our life is like a rail road…
