Small Business Hiring Gains Fire Power

We are witnessing the end of an era. Since the end of the World War 2, large companies have controlled the ebb and flow of the US economy: from the reign of the Detroit automakers to the rise of west coast tech moguls like Microsoft and Google. Small businesses have been the tiny vessels tossed in the wake of gargantuan tankers, forcing their products on consumers through sheer bulk.

The tides are changing though- the failing American economy has exposed the incapability of big… Continue

IN SEARCH.....For the Perfect Software!!!!

Okay here it goes.....I have spent the last few weeks researching Staffing Software for the company I work for. We plan on implementing this change sometime in January 2010. I have seen a couple of demos, one of which I was pretty impressed with. I have even posted a Blog and a Discussion here on this site, in hopes of getting some feedback on what seems to be the most widely used or most popular, yet satisfying software out on the market today. I don't know if I'm not being clear on the info I… Continue

Employee Backlash Looming

With the state of the current economy this topic is highly premature, but as a recruiter who is out there speaking with employed people everyday about the limited number of jobs out there I can’t even begin to count the number of them that have gone into detail about how their employer-employee relationship has changed. While they have no other recourse but continue the status quo and keep there jobs, they are certainly of the mindset that as soon as things get better they are out the door. Now… Continue

My Top 10 Job Hunting Tips

Looking for a job is frustrating, depressing and seems like an endless cycle little that is positive.

This is especially true if your main job hunting tactic is "Click and Apply".

You know the one, everyday, checking out the different job boards, finding a job you are suitable for and then clicking on the link and applying for the job. Wondering why you are not getting called.

And in fact you do know why, you are one of the thousands of other people doing the… Continue

The Trolley Problem

“A trolley is running out of control down a track. In its path are 5 people who have been tied to the track. Fortunately, you can flip a switch, which will lead the trolley down a different track to safety. Unfortunately, there is a single person tied to that track. Should you flip the switch?”

Isn’t this a common problem that many Recruitment Process Outsourcing decision-makers face?

If they do nothing with talent acquisition, then surely, as discontent grows with… Continue

Successful Entrepreneurship; FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS

What's one very important attribute of a successful start-up? Is it the brilliant idea? Continuous innovation? or the plain old execution? All of the above are important for the young company to survive and flourish. However, over the last decade or so that I have dealt with start-ups including building a few of my own, I have realized that focus on execution is key. There are tons of examples of companies that had just another product like many others but out shined the rest with pure focus on… Continue

To Be or Not To Be; A Manager

To be or Not to Be.........a manager is the question. After a few years starting off in any job, most people ask the question, should I become a manager or continue to be an individual contributor?

In some countries, taking the role of a manager is not only prestigious but also the only way to grow one's compensation. In other countries such as in the U.S, a solid individual contributor can not only rake in the cash like any other manager but also is accepted and respected in the… Continue
