Social Media Measurement

Social media participants and bloggers keep talking about traffic, rank, sponsors, connections, and influence as being the end all measures of success. What do you think about prospective candidates who demand clients's name?

Has any of you come across propective candidates who demand to know your clients name? How do you deal with such people especially if they are qualified for a position? I was thinking of writing something where they would sign and promise not to apply directly to the client. Uuuugh!!!
