I am getting worried about Recruiters.

Yes I am getting worried about some of the Recruiters that I have seen on Twitter and other Social Media channels.

They are incredibly passionate and enthusiastic advocates for Social Media Recruitment and they seem to have few reservations about its limitations. Indeed so enthused are they that they spend a lot of their free time talking about it, tweeting it, communicating with their friends about it and reposting articles and blogs about it. It has become their…

Recording - Recruiting Animal Show - Doug Whatley

Doug Whatley is a headhunter and career coach in Austin. He is a classic No Cold Call - I do everything by referral recruiter.

It took me a long time to hone in on his primary virtue - which is being a local go-to guy. Near the end of the show the @animal crew chose to focus on something else:…

It ain't rocket science, folks. Or is it?

Sometimes I think too much.

I know this about myself and counter that tendency by focusing on the slogan (yes another one) "Action breeds action" every single day. "When in doubt send them out!" is another one that rings true in my ears.

However, that doesn't mean we should present a candidate without thinking, it doesn't mean our job is to fling crap at the wall without preparation.

On this board we sometimes talk about how we should prep candidates for interviews,…

Thank You Notes are Passé and Other Interviewing Myths

Stumbled across this BNET article about what What Hiring Managers Really Look For.   Sure, there are lots of points made in the article I agree with, a few things I could probably argue against, but overall a decent read.  The author writes from his personal experience, and I have no doubt…

DOL Requests $46 Million for Worker Misclassification Enforcement

The Department of Labor (DOL) is requesting $46 million in the Fiscal Year 2012 budget to allow the agency to "redouble its efforts to combat worker misclassification."

Over the past couple of years, the DOL has been cracking down on employers who misclassify workers who should be W-2 employees as 1099 independent…

Recruiting without blinders

You receive a new job requisition.  You post the job to numerous channels, sort through candidate resumes that come into your ATS, set up interviews and hopefully find a candidate that you hire.  Rinse and repeat.

With new job requisitions coming up every day and some that drag on without finding the right candidate, it can be easy to lose yourself in the day to day and focus less on the big picture.  It’s what I like to refer as “recruiting with blinders…

IF I RAN RECRUITING

I've often wondered what I'd be doing if I didnt run AllCountyJobs.com any longer. I could probably do a variety of different things and one that comes to mind is a corporate recruiting department. I would bring a fresh perspective and shake things up.

Here's what I would do if I ran recruiting...

  • I would hire a director of recruitment marketing to create an…

Hiring Demand for Recruiters Increases Again in August

During August, more than 6,000 new online job ads were posted for Recruiters.  About 3,200 (52%) jobs were advertised by staffing firms and 2,800 were posted by employers (48%), both seeing about a 26% increase compared to the beginning of the year. Out of Contact Recruiters.... seriously?

I must be having a dumb moment. I just don't understand. Why is it that people do Recruitment Advertising and do not put their name or phone number or email address on it?…

On the beach: what I heard and saw at IAEWS and ERE 2011

One problem with the internet in general and social media in particular is that you have fewer reasons to leave the office. After all, if I’m swapping Tweets with @Animal or @HRMargo all day, do I really want to spend ‘real’ time with them?

Well, actually, yes. It’s fun to meet the living, breathing version of these virtual friends. And what’s even more fun is to learn new stuff and hear interesting news and gossip.

That’s where the …

Are we the architects of our own employment downfall?

An interesting debate emerged recently when it was revealed that the UK actually has more jobless teenagers than Slovenia.

Straight away of course there were the usual "well what do you expect with all the foreigners coming over here" type comments and others blaming the generation before them for voting for this, that and the other, but it got me thinking (always a dangerous thing) - would it be silly to suggest that it's nothing to do with immigration, baby boomers, Generation X or…

Is your resume preventing you from getting a new job?

It seems that when people apply for jobs and don’t receive interview requests, they are quick to blame anyone or anything. I’ve heard job seekers tell me countless times that they applied for over 100 jobs online without receiving one single interview request. They tell me it’s because of the current state of the economy or because the demand for jobs is far greater…

Talent Management – Is That What You Do?

In his groundbreaking book, Intellectual Capital, author Thomas Stewart writes “The management of talent, your human capital is part of an uncertain and complex endeavor that must deal with technology and competitors that won’t stand still, must formulate strategy and place multi-million dollar bets on the basis of highly imperfect information, and that adds to…

Networking and Social Media

However, one should take into account some tips when using Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter. Using these sites to increase the profits in your business should have a personal touch lest you get perceived by others as a spammer. Remember that shoving your message to others will not be an effective method as this will only be more damaging instead of being profitable. People might get annoyed with constant nagging, so in increasing your network, make sure that you only choose people who have the…

Do You Suffer from NPS?

Are staff not held consistently accountable in your firm? Do you come up with justifiable reasons when expectations are not met? Are reprimands or terminations delayed or do not happen at all? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you most likely have a condition called Nice Person Syndrome. Don’t worry, it’s not terminal.

To succeed as a salesperson or recruiter, you have to be a nice enough person (or able to fake nice) to build relationships. These same nice… Continue

Knowing exactly how to tap these goldmines requires different tools and approaches, and here are a few ways for you to tap these different environments:

Time to join the 21st century......... Contractors have their place in agency recruitment

A recent conversation with a client went something like this…..

‘Craig, I need someone now! We’ve just picked up a major PSA client with volume roles. At the moment I’m working the desk and it’s taking me away from what I need to do…’ Note the tone of desperation in this Manager’s voice…..

‘Sure, John, we’ll get on it straight away. It may take a while to find the right person. Would you consider a Contractor to help you out in the meantime?’ There I said it… the dreaded ‘c’… Continue
