Retention with a capital R

This is a topic you will read, hear or even write about over the next several years. Why? Because retention is the key to our future. And our future will not shine bright if we cannot keep our people -

bottom line. I recently had the opportunity to hear Ed Barlow

speak on the future ... exploring the rapid and dramatic economic,

technological, social, and political changes that lie ahead. His

audience (CEOs, CFOs, CAOs and…

Recruiting Pinata Party

Ever go to a kid's birthday party that had a pinata? You know, you are blind-folded, spun around, handed a broomstick or baseball bat and told to "Swing!" I hated that game. Sure, some may find it fun to blindly swing a hard wooden object into the darkness and hope you hit something (or someone, if one of the kids at the party was one that shared their lunch with that boy you liked, maybe) and a bunch of candy pours out while everyone cheers for you. But, I really hated that…

I Need Some Help...

Okay, this is more a call for help than a real blog post. If you’ve got input, please feel free to comment….

I am in the process of looking for an expert in C++ performance tuning. The person I need must understand high-volume, real-time transaction processing systems, and must have experience in tuning

those systems in the past. I’m not going to be using third parties for

this search, so I’m working to find the…

It might be nothing

As a read the article Workforce Planning: Preparing For the Next Economic Downturn by Dr. John Sullivan, a cold chill ran up my spine and a wave of memories came rushing back to me. My mind went back to when I was the Recruiting Supervisor for CTS Corporation in late 2000 and into 2001 and a few articles…

No Shows and Not Theres

About two months ago, we had two people not bother to show up for

interviews at our New York office. I had set up the interviews, the

interviewers had made an effort to be available, and I had confirmed

with the candidates two days earlier that the interviews were still

scheduled. And yet, they didn’t bother to show up, nor did the bother

to call and let us know that they would not be there.

Unemployed in great position for Job search

No being unemployed is not an ideal position from a financial (or mental health) perspective, but looking at this situation as an IT recruiter they have the best situation in which to view all of their options and make the best decision for their career. So the question that begs to be asked is why do so few take advantage of their situation?

Here recently I’ve dealt with a few individuals who have been caught up in the proverbial downsizing/outsourcing at their…
