When Does a Resume Need a Serious Facelift?

If one of your favorite songs is the old folksong "The Times, They Are A-Changin'," then you'll want to be sure to check that the resumes you send out are up to date. For, yes, the times really have changed since that tune was popular, especially with all the new technology trends popping up in the past few years.

How to cement your reputation as a dorkola recruiter

Here we go… another horrible example of the type of cold call/emails some recruiters are sending.

I’ve never heard of the recruiter that sent this - who according to their LI profile, has been an agency recruiter since 2008 and has a whopping 36 connections. I don’t recall having any prior interactions with their agency and don’t know how they have my email address. What I do know is this a one of the lamest messages I’ve seen in quite a while.

The email…

Gold Star

Recently I received a resume from a young lady that had just graduated with a master’s degree in Oceanography looking for a position.  She sent this to me in hopes that she would be chosen to work for the company I had a contract with.  She like so many hopefuls she applied on line and waited to hear if she was chosen or not.  She was.  She had the schooling and…

Interactive online resume

Dear Resume Writer

I have a new product to add to your list of resume styles and formats

I have developed an interactive online resume.

Please find attached an example http://cmecv.com.au/?public=doc_1367796299488

This resume looks and prints normally but links you to many websites, video and documents related to the applicant.

This will only make more important the skills of a professional writer…

Best of both Worlds - a written interactive video application

Dear Lee

I was very interested in your blog and comments about video applications.  The big issue for employers is that they do not want to waste time with video when they are looking at 100s of applicants.

I have developed a product that gives and employer an ordinary Resume but if they want they can click on a skill, qualification or anything within the resume to see, hear and have demonstrated that component of the person's CV.

Happy for you to critique…

THE INFAMOUS BLACK HOLE

Candidates often complain that they never hear back when they send their resume.  I have to admit I generally reply to everyone out of respect and understanding that during these difficult times, everyone deserves to be heard (or at least their resume responded to).  The reason I say generally is that I have continued to place ads where I not only ask for specific requirements, I also have been clear that people should NOT APPLY if they do not meet those requirements.  Since I read…
