I talk to a lot of recruiters.
And it is tough for many of them right now. That we know.
Everybody is scrambling for a dollar, chasing every client. A bit like that sad, desperate guy in the bar at 2 am, harassing every one of the last few women left standing.
But there is the irony. As recruiters push ever harder to win…

Since the boom of social networking in the early 2000’s we have been driven to consistently updating the world with our goings on, whether that’s where we’re going, what we’re doing or what we’re eating for dinner (because everyone needs to know that you are eating a really lovely pizza!).
Although social networks are a great way to keep up to date with friends,…

I believe the answer is…when it comes to IT jobs.
IT changes so quickly, blink your eyes and a hundred new apps are developed. Hiccup and you may miss the latest software development. In such an ever-evolving environment, doesn’t it make sense to keep the door open to IT hiring?
The intricacies of the world of global information technology are such that it is becoming increasing difficult to employ an IT department to satisfy changing needs. Education and…

Everyone and their brother thinks they can build the next great recruiting tool. What they all seem to miss is that if you don’t have experience working the recruiting process, you lack the knowledge of what we, as Recruiters, need. Once in a great while, though, I find a tool that just works. Those “ah…

On two separate times in the past week, my inbox contained entries which centered around the image that the corporation puts forth to the marketplace. In each one to some degree the organizations involved forgot what their purpose is -- to acquire and maintain customers. To do that we need to have the "right person, in the right job, at the right time and in the right place."
Consider these events. The first involved a cheerleader on the Baltimore Ravens. She was banned from being…

The moving target that is the job Description!!
We have all seen it and dealt with it. A job Description (JD) not written with us being involved, that says almost nothing, and when you speak to the hiring manager (HM) and ask question they give you almost nothing.
Part of the problem is the HMs…

Ok my specialty in legal is Intellectual Property. When one of my former candidates called me she said my brother could really use your help, I thought yea if he is as good as his sister slam dunk.
Well his specialty is construction litigation. I did that when I first got into the legal industry. I did not want to disappoint his sister and he has a good background I decided to take him on.
Here is my problem I am doing my blind presentation and I am getting feedback but…

Here’s an admission from a recruiter, I save my best candidates for my best clients. Not all clients are created equal and neither are all candidates. Sometimes an “A” player will walk into your office and he or she does not know that they are an “A” player and their just looking for a better job. I love these humble candidates. They know that they are hardworking and successful but have been working under terrible conditions or a terrible boss for so long that they think that this is…

We've had a lot of conversations with recruiting organizations over the past few months about their recruiting processes
and strategies. And one feeling that keeps coming up is that they feel like they are becoming too process oriented. They feel hijacked by their requisition based process and feel like their recruiting teams are focused on and rewarded for the wrong…

I HAVE RETIRED!
I almost can't believe I am actually saying those words, but YES(!) I am retired.
My LinkedIn account is closed (can't seem to figure out how to actually close it so I just deleted everything) and I will no longer be on Twitter. This will be my last entry on Recruiting Blogs though I may drop by to see what's happening in the recruiter…

There's a phrase I am seeing way too often;
"I have combined full time studies with other commitments. In achieving this, I have shown myself to be hardworking, dedicated and determined in achieving my goals."
I'm seeing it so often it's starting to make me yawn and it's colouring my opinion of what might otherwise be a good CV. It tells me the author went to the internet and slavishly copied the advice given there, without even bothering to reword it in any way. That…
