A way to search for alumni groups on LinkedIn and Yahoo Groups

I set up a way to search LinkedIn and Yahoo groups for school and company alumni groups. I will be adding other sources of groups in the near future.

Alumni groups either for companies or schools is a great place to find possible candidates or to post jobs often at no cost.

Many allow recruiters to join even if they did not attend the school or work at the company but check… Continue

The Client Side - Hoping for a January bounce

Since my business is focused on the Client Side of permanent placement recruiting, I thought it would be valuable to share what we're experiencing on this end on a regular basis. So here goes...

The last half of December is typically very slow and this year it was the same as it has been in the past, thankfully. To the contrary, the September - October - November period was not even close to anything we had seen in the past. During that period the level of fear that clients… Continue

happy-new-year

I don't know about you, but I've been looking forward to 2009 for the last few months. I'm always excited entering a New Year - it's like starting all over again in many ways, which makes this year even more highly anticipated. Since my birthday falls in early January (the 5th), I am full year older at the start of every New Year.

At the start of the every new year I reflect…

2009 Hiring Predictions

Most employers expect to make no major hiring changes next year, and those who do are taking it slow. However, companies are looking at ways to make business operations easier and more cost-effective.

CareerBuilder recently released the results of its latest survey, 2009 Job Forecast, conducted by Harris Interactive. The survey, completed from November 12 to December 1, asked 3,259 hiring managers and human resource professionals in private sector companies about next year’s… Continue

2009 -Your Time To Shine

Reproduced from Fordyce Letter Network blog on New Years Day.

There I was sitting on an airplane the eve before New Years Eve recovering from a 5 day party extravaganza in CABO wondering what I was going to do with myself for the next four hours. I didn't want to drink, I didn't want to talk, I didn't want to read, I couldn't sleep and I didn't have my computer, BUT.....I had my handy dandy I-Phone. Then it hit me....."this is a perfect… Continue

Claudia's Wednesday Wisdom
This week Claudia reminds us why she is so good at helping recruiters who have seemingly intractable problems with candidates, hiring managers, other recruiters, personal hygiene, and so on.

Claudia's general approach to solving problems? Common sense, good manners, a sense of humor and a few choice questions. And once again in this week's post:

What makes me a Smart Recruiter

These are the TOP 5 Things That Makes Someone a Smart Recruiter:

1. Stay Positive! -Don't let people or things throughout the day bring you down whether it's people you work with, friends or family members or a candidate or client that is obviously not having a good day. Don't let these things affect your mindset. Just think YES I CAN!

Beginning a New Year

As we all know, 2009 will not be any better than 2008 when it comes to securing employment. I have decided to try to broaden my networking efforts by joining this forum and sharing my successes and near misses. Hopefully, I will be able to pass on employment opportunities that were not a good fit for me but might be just what someone else has been searching for. In my 20 plus years of HR experience I have been responsible for recruiting, HRIS, performance management, and compensation both in a… Continue

Happy New Year - from the "RaisingFive Family Dance Troupe"

It's the last day of the year (as well as my 11 year old's birthday). So, I thought I'd give you a peek in to the secret lives of the Smith family...my family.

We had a different twist this Christmas to the family get-together at my in-law's house.

Each family was forewarned: "Be prepared to do a skit - sing a song - anything to make us laugh."

Well, we're certainly not short on crazy at my house, seeing how we're in the process… Continue

Ami G. on Wednesday: Recruiters get paid easy money. Why not you?

Infomercials that offer get rich schemes are nothing new. From no-money down real estate to getting rich off tiny little classifieds it is inspiring to see quadriplegic ex-truck drivers bringing home gobs of cash and everyday housewives sporting boob jobs in the Bahamas.

For sure, the economically challenged and/or recently unemployed may be tempted to buy the turn-key this and the fool-proof that.… Continue

Employee Benefits: What Trends to Expect in 2009

In the upcoming year, many employers will find it difficult to expand their employee benefits in a time when the company may be suffering as a result of the poor economy. Although there may not be a large shift in the benefits offered to employees in 2009, workers will need to be realistic in their expectations and understand that everyone from top to bottom is feeling the affects of the recession.

In a tight economy, employers will be hesitant to make drastic changes to their… Continue

Making a "To Don't" List

As we all know, it is that time of year again when whether we like it or not, thoughts start running through our heads like "this really is going to be the year that I lose those 25 pounds, stop smoking, start seriously exercising, will swear off karaoke or will stop trying to over-think my football picks."

It's an easy list to remember because for most of us it's same list as last year.

So when I got my issue of… Continue
