When I first stepped (or more accurately fell) into recruitment 10 years ago, the agency that employed me said they were impressed with my sales background and that is why they hired me. I thought that was odd because recruitment is all about interviewing, matching candidates to clients and helping people find a job...isn't it?
I went on their induction course and it was full of people similar to me with no recruitment experience that had worked in telesales or had…

Hello RBC –
I wanted to just take a quick moment to offer a hello to everyone. It has been quite hectic since last week as you can all imagine, but I really wanted to express my sincere appreciation for all the kind words and feedback both Noel and I received. It means a great deal to us and illustrates the true value of the RBC, which is the community.
I wanted to also take a moment to thank Jason. His time and insights since the beginning of this process have been…

If you have plans to be a great recruiter, please, remember this and never forget it.
Filling a job does not start with finding good candidates for a particular job order. It starts with the quality with which you take the job order in the first place. It does not matter if you take the brief face to face (and you should, if at all possible), or over the phone. Filling the order starts with how well you qualify that order.
You have to make sure, at the very…

Initial thoughts from a Corporate Recruiter on Monster’s new product announcement:
“There’s something happening here, what it is ain’t exactly clear”
My Tweet stream was inundated on Saturday evening by an onslaught of messages heralding the new job seeker application developed by Monster on the Facebook platform, “BeKnown”. Because I follow several Monster Marketing folks, this wasn’t much of a surprise. The surprise was the “canned” messages being…

BeKnown is good news! There are lots of posts out there with facts and screen shots, so I skip that.
Here some initial thoughts.
1) It’s fantastic to see potential competition to LinkedIn; Moster has been one of the few big players capable of that. LinkedIn’s quality has been hurt by not having…

The Society for Human Resource Management’s 63rd Annual Conference and Exhibition is being held from June 26-29, 2011, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. eEmpACT is very proud to be participating in this event, as we agree with SHRM that the next two years will be a turning point in the HR profession and a vital time for the recovery of our nation.
SHRM says that this year’s conference will feature the largest number of practitioners, strategic…

In our newsletter last month, we published “Poison Control” – an article on how to deal with toxic individuals in the workplace (e-mail me for a copy). This week, Peter Cappelli published an article called Managing the Difficult Employee, in which he points out that there are a lot of…

Here’s a news flash – finding top IT talent is becoming increasingly difficult as budgets loosen up and employers are desperate to fill positions requiring high demand skills. The problem seems to be that there are more jobs (believe it or not) than qualified candidates (who are actively looking for a career change).
Finding top talent can be a bit challenging in today’s market, but that’s what IT recruitment agencies like…

The launch last week with much fanfare in the USA (and a lot less elsewhere) of the new Marriott game on Facebook raises an interesting question, perhaps not quite the characters in the title, but can online games get you more hires? Does it inspire new candidates who would not have previously have thought of a career in your sector, does it help self select out those that are thinking of your company or sector or is…

You look up one day and realize that you have been thrown back into the job market. Suit (and tie) ready? Check. Updated resume available electronically and printed on nice sturdy 100% cotton paper where you can actually see the fibers? Check.
So you’re prepared. However, have you checked the professionalism of your e-mail address?
Maybe the e-mail address is a small priority to some in the grand scheme of things since there are so many other concerns when prepping…

I loved "Field of Dreams" a movie that spanned so many different interesting topics and life parallels that even to this day I watch to put myself in a reflective mood. I have been thinking about the ever-changing, and ever-evolving staffing landscape - like a field of dreams - where individuals find their work, eager companies snatch up amazing talent, and vehicles of change drive life's deals and closes - not to mention an ever changing web and technology landscape. When my career began…
