The following ResuWe Employer ATS screenshot views applicants who have applied for a VP Sales position. The left highlighted column lists the applicants' ranking based on keyword matches according to the job description. The right highlighted…

Social Media for Recruiting – Post and Pray approach?

Every decade brings a new buzzword with itself. This one brings – “Social Media”…

Early-users has definitely started calling it ALA “Dot Com Bubble” of internet. We have to remember that it merely serves as a “Tool” and not as an entire “Strategy” with a stand-alone usage.

Well, with this post I would like to highlight a big “Don’t” in Recruitment as far as social media goes. Social media does give a large visibility on internet with it’s advance tools…

Don't Hire a "Tim Tebow" Candidate

If you’re a sports fan like me, you always have an opinion about a professional athlete’s skills and abilities. Whether you’re trying to determine if Kobe is better than LeBron, or if Brett Favre is the greatest quarterback of all time, every sports fan has an opinion. One of the biggest debates in the NFL recently has been if former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow will be successful as a professional, or if join the list of College Allstar turned NFL Bust.

Tim Tebow has arguably… Continue

How to make the most of transferable skills

Last week, we got a request for a Proposal Co-coordinator from one of our engineering clients. They needed someone for a few weeks to help pull together and format a massive amount of information for a proposal.

I immediately thought of a candidate that I had met recently. She had been laid off from her position as a meeting planner/event coordinator. My colleague looked at her resume and asked why I thought she would be a good fit.

What does a good event planner do… Continue

"How Do I Break into a field...and can you help me...?"

I just received a call from a young lady seeking some advice on how to "break" into the restuarant business as a manager...although she possesses no restaurant management experience. This is not the type of call that we field often at Martin and Associates PeopleSource...since we work with seasoned restaurant management professionals. But it got me thinking and I thought I'd share my "sage wisdom" as a restuarant…

A resume without the regular contact details? Madness, surely?

I saw a tweet recently complaining that a candidate hadn’t placed the traditional methods of contact on his resumé (telephone number, email address). I think the case concerned, I believe it to be a valid complaint. However, it lead me to think more about the kind of roles we recruit for today – and more specifically, the way we…

Push back hard candidates. When you see a sign that says "unemployed people need not apply." Push back hard.

What do airplanes, shooting stars, and wishes have in common with unemployment? The lyrics discuss the wish upon a shooting star, let’s face it couldn’t we all use a wish right now? A wish right now might just lift a spirt, and encourage a heart. HireFriday is here to help.

That is why I am disclosing my personal story of tragedy and loss. Sometimes you have to lose it all to appreciate what you once had. I know I did. Unemployment is hard. HireFriday can help. People… Continue

Toxic Lifeforms That Lurk in the Office

There always seems to be that one person at work that you just can’t stand to deal with, let alone before you have grabbed at least 2 cups of coffee in the morning! Does 'Productivity Down = Hiring Up?' Only Time Will Tell

Many companies have held off hiring new employees for quite some time. The question is how much longer can they continue to do so?

From all indications, not too much longer.

On Tuesday, the Labor Department released its worker productivity numbers for the second quarter. The numbers weren’t that pretty, since they indicated productivity fell 0.9% during the second quarter. That represents the first time that productivity has…

Linking Social Media and Face to Face Networking

The networking event I attended last night had an unusually low turnout. I appreciate that people are on holiday, but even taking this in to account I still expected there to be more people to a very regular event.
