The Impact of the Social Graph on Recruiting

For far too long, marketers, advertisers, and recruiters have undervalued the way actual decisions are made. Witness the interrupt driven nature of product advertising and job postings. The assumption is that by placing information in front of customers or prospective candidates, we will automatically convince them to buy our products or apply for work at our organization.

Real World Decisions

In the real world, this is not how things works at all. Most…

Digital Technology and Recruitment Agencies – RIP or Rejuvenation?

Even before “To google” became a verb, digital technology formed the pervasive backdrop for economic activity. Nowadays, even the most savvy recruiters are challenged to keep pace with the new functionality and devices that are constantly appearing in the marketplace. However, many recruitment consultancies appear to be adopting a “business as normal” approach without recognition of the tide change that digital technology brings. Companies who continue on, without addressing or integrating new… Continue

How to Track Your Job Search Progress - Nayeem Chowdhury

I remember when I used to apply for jobs, I would think I was applying to company websites that were like black holes. When recruiters used to call me back, maybe after a month or two after an application, I would have no idea who it was and what it was for. Here is a job search tracking spreadsheet I created to allow me to track my progress and the same time follow up with the recruiters I worked with to increase my network, display my persistence, and can refer back and prepare for an…

Recruiting Stratiges

Google or Yahoo to “Stumble” upon our site when they input a search word such as a company name that we’ve done business with, or project name that we have worked on, or anything associated with one of our press releases about a project etc.

Call me Old Fashioned ......

When I interview experienced prospective hires I used to expect them to be well prepared, well presented and engaging, but this is rarely the case so now my expectation is low.Surely that's

not right! Shouldn't it be the opposite? Shouldn’t it be second nature for

recruiters to be great at interview?

ReThink is growing fast and hiring lots of people…

Innovation Step 1

"Step 1: Get out of the fetal position!"

I am asked on occasion why companies talk feverishly about innovation but hardly ever (if ever) put solid innovation schemes into play.

FEAR is my answer. Pick whatever flavor you like:

Fear of failure

Fear of loss of…

For all my blog posts please see 'The Savage Truth'

time meeting with virtually every recruiter, looking at activities and shining the light on efficiency and productivity…

It's a Garden Not a Grocery Store

Over the last two weeks I have used this analogy when talking to recruiters within my company that recruiting via the social networks is more like a garden and not a grocery store. It seems to have connected with them and I know there are hundreds of other analogies out there describing "social recruiting" and this one just came out of my mouth during a conversation. My point is when a recruiter is using the social networks to find candidates and…

Using Facebook to promote your business

I was wondering what recruiters thought of creating a web page on facebook in order to get the talent they are looking for.....I am a nationwide direct hire recruiter for I.T., Engineering and Accounting/Finance. Being that our company isn't a temp firm, I'm wondering if I should add this as one of my networking tools. Any thoughts?

The Dash

There are a few things in life that are just beyond our control, and then there is the rest which we have a "say" in. Obviously we didn't have any say in the fact that we were born. We couldn't choose the day, the time, or our parents, etc. Everything was basically out of our control. Eventually we will all die, and if let alone to nature we really don't have much say in that event either. It's what happens between those dates, the dash, that we have a major impact on. This is the story that we… Continue

Interview with Peter Weddle

Peter Weddle is one of the true “gurus” in the recruitment industry. In addition to his hugely popular newsletter, WEDDLE’s , he is the author of over two dozen books and has been a columnist for both the Wall Street Journal and CNN.com.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about how many feel that HR is losing the battle of delivering a positive candidate experience. When I read in Peter’s newsletter his thoughts on…
