The trimming of dividends - perhaps to preserve cash on the balance sheet - certainly fueled sell-offs but this
drop below 7000 sure is humbling.
Companies need to extend credit and they need to do it fast; we've loaned them the funds and they're still sitting on their bundles of green. Call your local politician and get them to get on the horn and tell these freeloaders to lend, lend, lend.

Seems as if the
Department of Energy has $25 Billion to make loans to financially viable companies to use to fund development of electric powered cars. The
program was developed in 2007 and has yet to dole out any money - money that would undoubtedly create jobs for recruiters as well.
The program’s small staff — around a dozen part-… Continue

My experience recruiting for IT consultants is very different from recruitin for Registered Nurses...with IT consultants you may either call them or by simply posting an add online- you get through them and they start calling you.
WIht healthcare though- speficically nurses..since they work odd shifts and lots of 12 hour shifts...I am not quite sure if they ever find a time to be online to look for jobs..not to mention- there's a lot of jobs for nurses which makes it challenging to…

Hands up all those who feel this.... go on... I know you want to, or have wanted to in the past.
I have a problem.... which I am a little embarrassed to write about. For goodness sake I am a grown man, I should be able to work this stuff out.
My TO DO List has stretched amazingly, I swear when I left it the other day it was fine, quite happy swimming along, not a care in the world. Now, sitting here very late Friday night,…

Selecting the right key words is critical to achieving visibility in online searches. Ms. Kory recently learned that rather than pull in buyers, creative copywriting can keep them away. "I have a wonderful apartment on Central Park West that has park views," she said, referring to a two-bedroom prewar co-op apartment currently listed at $4.15 million. "I was so tired of using the words 'park views' that I decided to write 'park vistas.' But it didn’t show up on any keyword search. People… Continue

Social media is changing the way we do business and achieve success. Whether you are marketing a product or service, recruiting talent or involved in a political campaign you have to be aware of the changes in successful marketing strategies. Social media is all about stimulating conversations and creating relationships. Successful campaigns are using social media but how is it affecting our marketing strategies in this down economy?
Ira Kaufman noted in his post…

It is hard to think of any job-hunting skills that Alexis Lovell lacks. As a recruiter for Silicon Valley technology companies, and before that, for retailers, she has advised job candidates on résumé preparation, personal presentation and interview skills for the last eight years. Networking strategies and trolling social networks and online job sites are the tools of her trade.
Yet none of those things is helping one candidate in need of a job these days: Ms. Lovell… Continue

Forced from executive pay to hourly wages
We've all heard that a good number of the unemployed decide not to seek part-time work because it might interfere with their job searches.
But Mr. Cooper rises every day at 4 a.m. and, after a time of prayer, devotes two hours to his job hunt on the computer. He prints out a detailed call list of prospective employers to take with him, squeezing in phone conversations… Continue

First
John Dickerson rants about Obama and his budget and then offers up this about Twitter:
One day we're going to wake up and every Twitter post will simply be, "Me, me, me, me." Outside will be a howling wilderness of shriveled civilization bereft of ideas and reason.
I already see it happening except…

Golf scores, gas bills, Dr Evil's sidekicks...bigger isn't always better. Unless you work in recruitment, that is.
Take a closer look at any rec-to-rec's books or website, and among the straightforward consultancy and managerial roles, you will more than likely find a number of stealthily exaggerated opportunities. 'Worldwide Operations Director' may seem like a prestigious position, but why does it only require six months' branch managing experience? If you Google the employer…

Today I experienced my very first unemployment insurance hearing. I was representing my company against a claim made by one of my former consultants. The following document is a must read for anyone looking to file for unemployment. It is essential that both employers and employees understand just how vague the law delineates why someone may or may not file for unemployment.

Essentially, if you quit, get fired, or refuse a…

I was speaking to my mentor and coach the other day about the long hours that I have been working and as the words came out of my mouth I caught myself and shifted the context from mild complaint to abundant gratitude.
Even though I am only 44 years old, this is the 4th recession I have been lucky enough or crazy enough to participate in during my career in Talent Management. I began my career in 1983 and Chicago at that time was crawling out of a recession. In my ignorance I thought…

Everything is hard before it's easy" - Thomas Fuller.
Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
I'd love to hear your responses and thoughts about this.
There's a rhythm to this statement which I find to be very profound and simple to digest. The statement or idea, "Everything is hard before it's easy" is applicable to most everything in life that's new to us whether we are learning to walk, communicate, find our way or prospect for a new client. If we…

Lately candidate treatment, technique, and discussions of the like have been pretty hot, and two posts in particular got me to thinking. One was Becky's admission to on-the-job bullying, and the other was Dan's response touting the virtues of being true to yourself. The more I thought I about it the more I realized that I actually had a very hard time coming to terms with these issues when I first began recruiting.
When I accepted my first job as a recruiter I actually had no idea…

I am very confused. Not that is not a normal state of mind for me lately, but more so than ever. My confusion is about the current state of our profession. There are many excellent Recruiters, Talent Acquisition Specialists and Sourcers employed and looking for employment. From the many on line resources we have access to we all see much of the same information regarding all of the open positions in virtually every occupation. We are all overwhelmed with 24x7 information from all media with…

I once heard a motivational speaker talk about how she continually stayed positive- in the face of adversity, in spite of the doom and gloom life (and the evening news) often brings, and despite the propensity we all have to enjoy some good old-fashioned negativity. After all, it is difficult enough to remain optimistic and thoroughly positive every day when life is bouncing along normally, but is much more challenging in extremely difficult economic times and intense market downturns, such as…
