Legend has it that famed Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton placed the following ad in a London newspaper prior to one of his unsuccessful expeditions to find the South Pole:
"MEN WANTED FOR HAZARDOUS JOURNEY. SMALL WAGES, BITTER COLD, LONG MONTHS OF COMPLETE DARKNESS, CONSTANT DANGER, SAFE RETURN DOUBTFUL. HONOR AND RECOGNITION IN CASE OF SUCCESS."As the story goes Shackelton was overwhelmed with applicants.

Just in time for Halloween comes this frightening article from Nicholas Carlson on Silicon Alley Insider:
Here Come The Pro Accounts.
In this article Nicholas confirms something I have long feared. The days of all free Social Media services are numbered.
I am probably not alone in my fears that, like LinkedIn and Flickr (which both already charge for premium services), it wouldn't be…

Our wonderful friends in Phoenix have had to make the tough decision to slash jobs across the country. The one time up and coming job board with the video and blogs, plus $65 million in investments, is slowly winding down their business operations across the country with their local approach. The so-called "franchise" model of local offices is failing as the economy weakens. Gone are several Director level positions plus sales and marketing people from coast to coast.
The future is…

The longest Daylight Saving period in American history ends Sunday, Nov. 1, when all states except for Hawaii, most of Arizona, and parts of Indiana will dial back the clock one hour. In optimistic…

This speculation seems to be on solid footing and individuals/orgs like Fred Wilson, Jason Calacanis, and Sequoia have offered thoughts on the shifting economic landscape and how…

We all know that in IT technical skills and experience are highly transferable and its nice to know that in these tough economic times you can change from one declining industry to a more stable or growing industry. However, one of the things that we are seeing in recent years that is making such a change more difficult is that of the size of your current organization. Yes, size matters to your ability to switch positions, and specifically the size and scope of your role and function needs to…

There are so many dos and don’ts to remember when interviewing for a job in medical sales, pharmaceutical sales, laboratory sales, clinical diagnostics sales, DNA products sales, surgical supplies sales, or biotechnology sales that it can play havoc with your confidence. One way to lessen your nerves when navigating the job interview process is to think of it less as a test, and more as a conversation. They’re finding out about you…you’re finding out about them.
