This posting is probably applicable only to contract recruiters, and people who are doing contingent placements on the side. About 6 months ago, I was trying to figure out away, to store all of the resumes I found, for future use. I did not like the idea, of keeping them on my computer, because of the hassles of transferring so many resumes to my computer, and then later using a client’s computer, and not having access to all of those resumes I saved. It also seemed redundant to always be…

I began writing a post on social networking the end of January – can’t believe it is already March! Due to a variety of events I’m just getting back to writing and what I quickly discovered is that this is a very different post than I would have shared in January and I think it has a lot to do with the continued advancements of social media. So, its quite appropriate to see that the subject has influenced the writer and I hope that I can share this learning experience with you as… Continue

I used to have a regional manager (when I used to work for that big, international, public monstrosity of a recruiting firm) that would make my recruiters cry every time he visited my office. We fought constantly over his approach to "managing" MY team. Although I think direct feedback is necessary as you develop people, it can be done in a way that doesn't leave your team member feeling like they were just hit by a mack truck.
I tend to be very protective of my peeps. I go to bat…

The clock is ticking. You see there are some folks out there in the business who fancy themselves students of the game. People like
Gerry Crispin. There are others and we will get to them but first lets talk about Gerry.
Gerry is a made man. He gets flown all over the world. He never pays for it himself. He has drivers and he likes to stay up late. There is one thing though about Gerry that some of you may not know.…

Based off an article written by David Lefkow for ERE, I've added 6 tips for hiring top talent at startups:
1. Get everyone involved in the hiring process.
2. Recruit constantly.
3. Build a positive reputation in the local community.
4. Focus on personality and cultural fit above everything else.
5. Don’t oversell stock options.
6. Don’t over-hire.

Proving ROI is what will empower one of my clients at
Broadlook to sign up for year #2, 3, etc. Without good metrics, corporate budgets won’t open up year after year. To help my clients track ROI, I’ve put together some concepts over the years to help examine the pipeline of sourced data.
Without a perfect record of all hires, measured against years past, ROI is hard to prove in a single year. Don’t get me wrong, some companies do this very…

I am looking for a software program where I can add candidates into a pool and have recruiters enter that pool and pick on or more then one to talk too about positions available. I want to have a bubble or something similar above the candidates name, or a roll over that would enable a recruiter to see some of the qualifications of that person in the pool. Does anyone know if something like this exists already?

The 2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship begins Tuesday, March 18. The tournament brings Cinderella teams, buzzer beaters, rabid fans and, of course, tournament brackets. And workplaces around the country are caught up in March Madness. The ease of organization is what makes the tournament attractive for office pools. Brackets are readily available for download from web sites like ESPN.com and NewYorkTimes.com. A recent survey by Vault Inc. reports that 57% of employees participate in NCAA…

I am trying to find the right sales person but so far I have not been able to do so.
I am currently employed by Express Employment Professionals and one of my goals is to increase my Direct Hire Placement, honestly I am not good at doing sales although I’ve been trying I don’t think that its working the way it would if someone with right profile/skills will be doing it.
Any suggestions on how or where to look for a great sales person?
Suggestions will be greatly…

I have been in the recruiting industry since 2002 and am convinced that recruiting makes you nuts. I don't know what it is about this business, but it seems to drive everyone mad.
Is it because we deal with people on a daily basis and because of those interactions we lose ourselves? How many times have you had a candidate lie to you? Tell you to your face one thing and then completely do the other. How about the temporary candidate whose Grandmother has died 6 times in the past 6…

I haven't written anything in a while and thought I'd leave an update. Spent most of last week searching for the right candidate for a house job order. Very difficult search, but I think I found the right person. I'm waiting for feedback from the client.
I have not been pounding out the marketing calls like I had hoped I would be. Mainly due to other things that need to be done. We are getting ready to go to CTIA in Vegas in a couple of weeks. We want to do something special on the…
