I've had the opportunity to chase a couple of searches in the last six months that were out of my specialty. Two companies wanted local marketing experts, a Seattle company wanted a recruiter, two tech firms wanted some high value placements and I worked on some splits with a friend.
The results were mixed, because I found candidates and made a placement, but the time lost in pursuing candidates outside of the social media field was a real drag on my other business, and the social…

In California, Arizona and Florida...have people nothing better to do?
We've talked about this for years in recruiting and how inane laws like this will impact recruiting - an entire pool of talent pissed off and possibly looking for another place to live or turning down offers.
Shameful.

It took me a while to understand the point of Twitter but at the Recruiting Road Show I saw the light.
You can search them outside of your network and outside of your network can search yours.
You can also add a URL of what you want to promote, shorten it with Tiny URL and make it appear in both your Facebook and Twitter Status.
You will need to have both a Facebook and Twitter account.
Add the Twitter application on…

I have a problem. I really like Twitter. And you should too.
In my quest to learn and pass along personal branding tips I have experimented with all kinds of tools. I firmly believe you need a good blog to help establish your personal brand. But you need to get people to read it.
In addition to consistently posting Pulitzer quality articles about your area of expertise or interest, you need to utilize the most effective Web 2.0 tools to generate traffic…

What do you do to make the Hiring Manager realize that you have looked under every rock but have still not come up with their ideal, perfect candidate? You bring them 'compromise candidates' and talk directly to the Hiring Manager about what you have found and what potential candidates have told you. Tell them what the candidates themselves have told you about the opportunity. Of course, in order to do this, you have to call those "less than perfect" compromise candidates and pitch the position…

Networking has always been fun for this introvert but especially so when speaking with a fellow recruiter or HR generalist (to include all levels). Don’t get me wrong, there’s always a rush when I get a C-level on the phone (
Jason Alba can attest to this) but I feel when someone of my own ilk is on the other end, it’s as if we both know the punch line from the same joke -…

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2006 American Community Survey, approximately 80 percent -- or 223.2 million people -- of Americans use only English at home.
The remaining 20 percent -- 55.8 million people -- speak a language other than English. Add the millions of tourists visiting the country each year and you have a huge demand for workers who can communicate in more than one language.
Thankfully, bilingual workers come to the rescue. In…

Karen Giberson, president of Accessories Council, a nonprofit organization that stimulates consumer awareness and demand for fashion accessories, was scheduling an appointment with a major retailer to show it a new line of pantyhose.
