It's been an interesting few days for calls from the past. Within the last 9 days I've received a call from a former co-worker looking for a job, a frustrated friend trying to get "that interview," an Army buddy interested in a career change, and a fellow recruiter wanting to talk about unrealistic time lines.
My fellow recruiter was…

Tonight I return home with some thoughtfulness and perspective. It would seem I have had a lot of opportunity to do this lately, think, ponder and deliver. I recently sat down to review a few things on my recent list of career goals, revisiting my perspective on what I really, really wanted out of where I was going and where I had come thus far. It is a lively action to do this, I think every time I do, I remember very clearly what brought me to these new days.
I am satisfied, happy…

Not out to lunch…at lunch. As in, what do you need to know to have a successful job interview over lunch? Interviews over meals may seem less formal than office interviews, but they are just as important. If you have a lunch interview for reasons other than your interviewer is truly incredibly busy, it’s because he or she is looking for something more than just your job skills. Like, how do you handle yourself in a semi-social situation? Can you focus with multiple distractions? (Are you gross…

I realized today that there is a great deal of similarities between courting a mate and courting our candidates.
when your courting your significant other, in the beginning you are possibly dating others and so you look to be the best, the best at talking, laughing and joking, hanging out, showing off all of you great assets, being YOU. BUT you dont show off the fact that you like to leave dirty socks on the floor or you like eating cold pizza... everyday.
This can also be related to…

When people are looking for a job, they tend to spend a lot of time writing and revising their resumes and preparing to answer job interview questions. However, even employers who accept resumes from applicants are going to ask job candidates to fill out an application prior to making an offer. Properly completing a job application form can make the difference between getting an interview and being overlooked.
Unfortunately, many people overlook getting prepared to fill out a job…

I've been thinking about one of my posts of old regarding how recruiters who ask you want kind of animal you'd like to return to life as rival the IQ of a prairie dog . . .
And today, I've determined the answer:

It's been said that, successful people aren't free from problems, successful people solve problems. To be successful in your job search, you must solve problems -- lots of them -- between now and the day you get hired. The faster and more creatively you do so, the shorter your search for work will be. Here's the story of how one woman ran into a roadblock in her job search, with suggestions that can help her -- and you -- solve problems and get hired faster.…

Anyone who has known me for a time knows one definite thing about me. I hate to be startled. It is not funny to leap out from behind a door and scream at me. It is not high comedy to drop a loud cup on the kitchen floor as I’m standing there. I hate when you’re all charged up with static electricity and you poke me and giggle. Chances are, I will instinctively hit you. Hard. It’s not a choice I make, just something my body does in response. I can’t control it, so it’s best not to risk…

Dear Claudia,
I am trying to learn how to make efficient client calls and meet their requirements. But you know what happens, the client (a prime vendor), gives me a requirement which has been on the market for a long time and is not filled yet. I try to get a consultant who is close to meeting the requirements, and submit them at a marginal rate. Till then the client will be communicating with me, but once I ask for the feedback, he just disappears!!!! Can you advise me what to… Continue

It never ceases to amaze me when a Director of Recruiting makes a statement like, "We don't use job boards, we use Monster". This was the answer given to a collegue of mine as they were discussing online recruiting strategies. It's clear to me that there is still a great divide between tech savvy recruiters and HR people and those that are still living in the days of classified ads

I'm performing a recruiting search, and wanted to see if anyone knew the Seattle recruiting market well. Specifically, I have a client that wants to hire a recruiter, and I need to ask some candid questions about the client.
Anyone open to having their brain picked?

Sorry for neglecting you all last week, my blog friends! I was preoccupied with helping my new little nephew, Joel Christian, into the world. It's amazing the difference a few hours can make. A few hours, a few moments, in the blink of an eye - your entire world has changed.
The whole birthing process can be related to the recruiting process really. First you find out: You're expecting! You've got a job order and you've (hopefully) got a timeline to hire. You excitedly spread the…
