Yahoo! Google - Tactics vs. Strategy
It’s certainly possible the YHOO made the right decision with regards to their newly announced Google deal. They’re smart folks who obviously have deep domain knowledge of their business. Of concern, though, is that this is a tactical but not strategic move. If they were punting on search because they couldn’t match GOOGs ability to capture/structure data that could be a fair concession — they’ve…

the reason i ask this question is because we hear so much about the downturn in the economy....the loss of jobs.....business are experiencing a downturn.....the housing crisis.....the gas crisis. if all is so bad, what are recruiters doing during this time?
my guess is the same as we always do, find great people for the opportunities we are recruiting for or am i missing something. i hear from recruiters all the time, oh my company is not recruiting or i am not recruiting right now.…

Priceless Moments
If you think about it, there are many precious moments in our life. Many of those in all of our lives, are remembered, mostly when you feel lost, but few of us ever recall some f those precious moments when everything is good. We hardly share the good ones with those good people around us. Reasons can be many, but when you do that you will actually increase your personal “goodwill bank balance.” This gives you an opportunity to make those around you feel good for… Continue

Learn this and you'll be way ahead
Even though I don't watch much TV because of the rotting effect it has on your brain, I constantly watch, the show called “The Bourn Vita Quiz Contest,” a very successful knowledge based half hour programme hosted by Derek Obrien, for several years successfully now.
I guess is pretty popular with many kids as well, but this may just be an assumption, then what about the parents, the adults…You sit down to watch it and you will be… Continue

Of Nuts, Bolts, Switches and Rail Tracks
Many times we compare our life to things around us, and sadly many people compare themselves with the others around them.
Comparing ourselves with other human beings is deplorable, but, looking for some concurrence philosophically about things around us, is not bad at all.
However, one of those comparisons that I often think about is how much our life is like a rail road… Continue

212 Degrees
At 211 degrees, water is hot.
At 212 degrees, it boils.
And with boiling water, comes steam.
And with steam, you can power a train.
One degree. Applying one extra degree of temperature to water means the difference between something that is simply very hot and something that generates enough force to power a machine – a beautifully uncomplicated metaphor that ideally should feed our every endeavor – consistently pushing us to make the… Continue

Hi - I had a great convo with Craig Silverman [Hireability] about this last week. I'd like to get others' feedback too:
I see many ads for sourcing, virtual recruiting, researchers, etc... I'd love to start a following of Virtual Business Development people and have Sourcers that Research Leads and Clients [companies & decision makers] over and above sourcing new candidates.
How would you build a strong, national, virtual team of business developers / researchers /…

No need to reinvent the something that others might have already done. Please comment on your experiences with some of the newer software applications. Do you have any special requirements criteria that you have already documented? I am just getting started and have only seen a few but would be happy to share any of my experiences thus far with those in the same boat.
Thanks, Kersten

Dear Walter:
I hope you can help me here. The other day I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual.
I hadn't gone more than a mile down the road when my engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husband's help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with the neighbor lady. I am 32, my husband is 34, and we have been married for twelve years. When I confronted him, he broke down and…

I had a breakfast interview with a candidate at IHOP this week. I went back yesterday because I thought I had left my glasses behind. Turns out I didn't forget my glasses, but I did forget to pay my bill. It was my first "dine and dash" interview. Give it a try sometime. :-)

Yahoo! Google - Game Theory and Ontology
Not quite sure how I feel about the
big Yahoo! announcement. To my mind, the deal raises uncomfortable ontological issues about just who Yahoo! is. If they’re just another publisher, then I guess it might make sense to outsource ad serving to maximize CPMs but as a tech platform, it seems to be a big concession of…
