I’m sure that there are many ways to mess up an interview and not turning up would probably be high on the list but recent experience would point to some not quite so obvious ways:
Not answering the question put to you would be high on my list. If you don’t have the exact background required and maybe your experience is from a different sector, in my opinion, it is perfectly alright to respond to a question with a answer that begins something like; “Well, I don’t have any direct…

I was able to chat with Kred's CEO Andrew Grill about how the site works, what their plans for the future entail, and what his thoughts are on using the site to find candidates.
Kred has the potential to be a very powerful way to source passive candidates. As a sourcer, you can search through the Kred "communities" to find people that are influential about topics that…

So you did everything right so far – showed up on time, dressed appropriately, researched the company and gave all the correct answers. Now it is time to turn the tables. A lot of candidates aren’t prepared, when asked, “Do you have any questions?” I have heard answers ranging from, “Not really” to “What is your vacation policy?” or “what is your background check policy?” – none of which help your candidacy. So how do your prepare a good list of interview…
Continue Recruiting as an industry is notoriously behind the times when it comes to leveraging social media for their business.
With millions of potential jobseekers on social media sites, social recruiting is a no-brainer for any headhunter or Talent Acquisition pro. Something I always found interesting, as a marketing person, is the fact that recruiting blogs seem to talk ad nauseam about…

Companies have been swarming Facebook by setting up their corporate presence online. Yet, besides just using their corporate presence to attract candidates, these resourceful recruiters have discovered that Facebook can also be used to dig into a smaller fan base of people who are so interested and invested in the company culture that they chose to join their talent community on the careers page. Recruiters can then use these talent communities to not only showcase their wonderful employer…

“Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at school” –Robert Fulghum.
I recently graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Communication Studies and French degree (if you need some help ordering a good wine at your favorite French restaurant, call me). Like every fresh out grad, I spent the better part of my senior year writing resumes, looking at job opportunities on Career…

901,000,000 people have entered the world of Facebook, and that number is increasing daily. How do we ensure that we are maximizing every ounce of our potential in the social recruiting space? How do we adapt accordingly?
Having an effective tool for sourcing passive candidates is key to successfully using Facebook for recruitment.
As Facebook continues to shift and change, the transition of using it as a means for recruiting is definitely a gradual one. The…

I am often really amazed at how easy it is to make a great difference to our clients’ experience of us, in very small and easy ways.
Today I visited the dentist. I’d broken a filling and needed to have it replaced. I don’t like going to the dentist, I have no logical reason for this or any phobia, but I just don’t enjoy it.
But, today was different. Today my…

There has been much talk about Cloud computing or SAAS recruitment software and the massive benefits for a recruitment agency to move to the Cloud. I find this quite amazing for two reasons, firstly most people I speak to aren’t really sure what this means and secondly the whole argument seems to have absolutely nothing to do with finding candidates, making placements or anything else to do with recruitment.
For the life of me I can not see what all the fuss is about, but…

The weather is hot, the labor market is not. Employers around the country posted 3.0% fewer job openings in June as compared to May. So far this year, demand for workers is below the same period of last year. Labor demand depends on consumption which has not returned domestically nor internationally. In addition, employers now can do more with a smaller workforce thanks to information technology. Growth has to come from new products and services driven by innovation which requires…

Who should you follow!! Updated
So this is an update to my original post about who to follow in the staffing world. So in reality you should not strive to be a follower but a leader. That said this post is about who out in the industry should you follow. Mind you this is the UPDATED list and there will be more updates coming. By follow I mean on twitter, connected to on Linkedin, RSS feeds etc. People or companies that will provide…

What is that weird waffle-looking thing at the beginning of that word and how does it help me? Well, that my friend, is called a hashtag (#) and it basically makes life easier for Twitter recruitment by helping you filter through categories of interests.
For instance, the following “tweet” includes “#recruiters” written…

Makes a lot of sense and this should apply to Social Recruiting as well. People don't join groups or pages to be part of some Brand community that they love (CEO's love to believe that), its more for deals and discounts or in Recruiting (some real info about jobs and careers). There is going to be a small minority who love your brand but a vast majority have better things to do with their time...Interesting article…

Most of your reading this will like dating but absolutely hate interviewing for a job, however, in many cases there both alike and essentially boil down to the same things. You’re both selling yourself and trying to work out whether you and the company will be a good match.
We will have good times, share laughs, grow together and learn from each other? OR on the other hand will I end up broken-hearted, consoling myself with a night in of chocolate, tissues and…
