One of them is Instagram.

How to measure your employer branding ROI

As everyone knows, employer branding is crucial for companies to engage as well as retain employees, to reduce cost per hire and complement traditional branding efforts. Because the practice is still very new, defining its ROI in specific terms that have wide agreement can be quite challenging.

Before you jump into any measurements make sure you understand your…

How effective are your behavioral interviews?

Many candidates seem to feel that they can easily customise their answers and fake their way  through different questions by telling the interviewers only what they want to hear.

What can employers do in such a situation? How can they get to the bottom of the matter? Will candidates really reveal their true personality, their work style and their problem-solving skills and…

How to Spot Excellent Job Candidates on Twitter

Twitter is an amazing hunting ground -- one that's been vastly underutilized and too often written off as an unruly homeroom of the Internet. There are amazing recruits who are looking for a decent job. But with more than half a billion users, it's estimated that Twitter is one of the 10 most visited pages on the Web.

How do you find the…

Salary Negotiation: Framing negotiables correctly to unlock hidden value.

One of my favorite negotiation anecdotes is from Stuart Diamond’s book Getting More.  In it, he describes a scenario where a child would like to have a cookie, but the parent says no.  Undeterred, the child then asks if he can get half a cookie and the negotiation ensues.  I love this example because it shows how a winning situation could be found with simple framing. …

Middle-Aged and Lost Your Job? It's Not Hopeless

According to The Wall Street Journal, 3.5 million Americans aged 45 to 64 were out of work last year. Almost 40 percent of those were unemployed for a year or more.

About twice as many 20-somethings are unemployed than more seasoned workers, but in middle age, finding a good job with good benefits can be much harder for an older worker. If you find yourself looking for work in middle age,…

No Compromises, No Apologies

As most of you know, if you have followed my blogs for a while, I am a Texan. A proud Texan. I have lived in Austin my whole life. No, I don't have cattle or horses at my house, but I can easily make a 4 hour drive down to south Texas and get my my fill of country living.

My whole life I have always worn boots. Not cheap ones either. My preferences are…

"I am not here to make friends."

I have heard people say this in recruitment many times. It sounds like the kind of vacuous horse dung that comes out of the mouths of people who go on the apprentice and think that they are there because they are good at "business" and not just because the producers have deemed that they would make great TV (Really? surely not). The apprentice is a reality TV show, just like X factor. It is there to…

Restless Candidate Syndrome

We all know the interviewing process can be arduous. There is a lot of time and effort that candidates must willingly invest during this critical process. Career seekers must be sure they’re in it to ‘win it’ or the time and waiting involved can cause one a whole lot of unneeded restlessness.

Companies also have to invest valuable time and effort. Hiring a…
