Overcoming Perception

The other day I was perusing the web and came across a nice little quote that touched on the topic of perception...

"Little pot, do not call the kettle black until you have been in the fire as long as he has!"

Now this was of course altered from the well-known idiom "Pot calling the Kettle black". For those who are not familiar with the original idiom it was used to accuse another speaker of hyprocrisy. It was quite easy, even as a child first hearing it, to understand the… Continue

The Tao of The Hire

Somewhere a True Believer is training to recruit your candidate. He is training with minimal food or water, in austere conditions, training day and night. The only thing clean on him is his phone and his Web 2.0 gear. He doesn't worry about what workout to do - his ruck weighs what it weighs, his runs end when his Candidate is hired and the Hiring Manager's need is filled.

This True Believer is not concerned about 'how hard it is;' he knows either he wins or he does not. He doesn't… Continue

Will Barack Obama's job creation plan work?

Will Barack Obama’s job creation plan work?

This will never be a political blog. I believe that personal political views and business do not mix. I will however say that I was not a supporter of President-elect Barack Obama. I do not agree with many of Barack Obama’s policies and do not believe that he has the experience to be President of the United States, especially given the challenges our country is facing such as the economy and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since Franklin… Continue

Potential Clients ... requesting referral to Potential Candidate

What is LinkedIn and Social Networking protocol for this type of issue?

I have a Potential client ... they have flirted with doing business with me on several occasions ... I have worked on a couple of projects with them, submitted several candidates ... with NO success ... they have a brutal hiring process that drags on for months and have both times at the last minute, went the other direction in hiring.

Now, I have the corporate HR lady asking me for a free referral to… Continue

Your Internet/Recruiting Dashboard

Internet Dashboard I was talking with a friend of mine over the weekend and she mentioned how she was enjoying a few of the tips that I had showed her in regards to managing bookmarks and her Google Reader. I noticed that as we were talking it was obvious that she had several tabs open - some for very quick items or news sites. I asked if she'd given any thought to treating her browser homepage like a dashboard instead of a… Continue

The Death of Recruitment Print Advertising?

For many years farrowjamieson has been tracking the slow decline in response rates of print advertising in recruitment compared to online job sites. While the initial range of generalist job boards created a cheap alternative to listing of vacancies the reality was that people were still looking at the newspapers for casual readership and job enquiries. Over a period of time as job sites increased and print decreased we have been awaiting the crossover.

History may well show us that… Continue

What makes me a Smart Recruiter

I love, love, love to solve problems – if there is a problem to solve or a need to fill, it is a happy day for me. Happy people almost always love what they do and end up doing it well because of it.

I have an intense curiosity about the business I am in and that I am supporting. I read, listen, ask questions, attend meetings, 'hang at the water cooler', chat, network, participate -- whatever I can to do to learn what/why/how/when/where we do it. This helps me both assess a… Continue

A Look Into the "New" Monster.com

From Cheezhead ... The world’s long wait is finally over. We can all breath again. Over the weekend, Monster.com revealed its new, job seeker-focused redesign. How do the changes rate? We go into the site for an in-depth look at what worked and what didn’t. And does it even matter.

CEO Sal Iannuzzi calls the new site “an entirely new site experience which allows job seekers a more engaging and dynamic way to find the career that best matches their talent, background,… Continue

It also explains the length of time for the postings -- low fees

I hadn't heard of the site before today. Probably because they don't do a lot of Healthcare posting. An example regarding the low fees - the Physician postings were paying $8K and had been out there for over 100 days. Only someone with low regard for their time would work so hard for so little.

Too Much Training?

I know this sounds weird coming from a trainer, but it occurred to me that as an industry, we might be a tad over-trained.

For example, some recruiters seem to be information addicts. They’re constantly on the lookout for all manner of training and coaching, but seem to make the same mistakes over and over again. There’s nothing wrong with training, as long as there’s some LEARNING going on.

Of course, at the other extreme are the recruiters who are totally self-taught. As… Continue

From Jobsighter - Social Media for Every Day Business: Especially LinkedIn

You’ve just received a request to connect on LinkedIn from a name you don’t recognize. A stranger! What do you do?
