Where are the best places to find candidates? Our new Talent Tracker blog post has the answer and will appear from time to time as part of the StaffingU Market Demand Report.
This week, we’ve measured some top cities to find web experience in IT, nurses in Healthcare, and designers in the creative niche.
In each chart, you’ll see the total number of workers in the United States, the city we measured, the functional area of employment, the occupation, the specific…

There is an old lawyer’s axiom – Never ask a question you don’t already know the answer to. I think this saying also applies to employers extending job offers to management level candidates. I’ve seen too many clients extend offers before they know if the candidate will accept, only to get a turn-down.
Once the offer is extended, the power shifts to the candidate, and often, that is when negotiation begins. The negotiation should be done before the offer is extended. An employer…

We operate under the impression that the past continues to repeat itself and therefore patterns can be traced and the leveraged to make more informed decisions when a similar scenario presents itself. But what if the scenario is the same but the architecture that has repeated itself…

One statement I've heard a lot from recruiters is that they "receive too many resumes" and are so inundated with candidates that it just bogs their whole recruiting process down. This is a problem but a good one to have (too many candidates is much better than too few).
But with any problem, the question is how can we solve it. How can you create steps in your recruiting process to easily filter and pare down the candidates you receive into a nice neat pile of qualified…

Michigan has been descending the economic elevator for half a decade now. It’s been so frustrating that hope for a ground floor is starting to dwindle. What’s the upside? You get to turn on the television and hear tales of employment shortages instead of Detroit’s high crime rate? Household chores are being done more consistently? I know, I know, everyone would much rather…

There's a lot of talk about the use of mobile technology and tools in recruiting - but not a lot of data. I'm hoping you'll help me rectify that by taking a short (3 min) survey - whether you're already doing mobile recruiting or not. Here's the link:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/98QJHNR
Your responses are completely anonymous, and the survey results will be freely available to everyone - in…

Somewhere in the vast landscape of job hunting, someone convinced job seekers that references are something that employers no longer check. I mean, after all, you’ve interviewed twice, got a free lunch, and even a shiny new pen with the company’s name on it. Why would they care about what other people have to say about you?…

It appears that Brightfuse (brightfuse.com), CareerBuilder's attempt at building a LinkedIn killer (and probably the site with the largest resources at it's disposal to do so), has fizzled.
When going…

My last post was about the importance of keeping your best people, especially in a recession. Today I’ll focus on what motivates an “A” player. These factors need to be in place in order for you to keep your top people loyal. “A” players are motivated to stay with you when they are:

I am not sure one exists. I do know that there is a shortage of female C level executives. We recently hosted an IFRS update luncheon for CFOs and sent an invitation to every CFO of a publicly traded company in the Boston area and I only came up with 1 female CFO out of 70.
Is it a “glass ceiling” or something else?
I believe it is something else or maybe a combination of these 2 observations...
1) Women…

The time has come. It will be a year unlike any I have seen in my life to date. So full of hope, so full of promise, and with an incredible amount of opportunity. This picture shows one of my favorite places in San Jose. Belgatos Park. It is here on a hill before you reach a San Jose Mountain known as Mt. Umuhnum, you can turn around, and find the beauty that propels…
