Are you Fullfilled in your life? Does your work life have purpose?

Hello to all,

I sincerely hope you are having a great day.

I am back from the gym and completed most if not all my weekly goals and getting ready for my mastermind call with Jason Larson, (www.larsconstruction.com) and I am inspired by what lies ahead of my day, my week, my month, my year....... My (our) Life!

I wanted to share an exercise I recently adopted into my daily routine, which is called "MORNING QUESTIONS", which is part of a program I am doing (… Continue

Phone Interview Tips

Employers use telephone interviews as a way of identifying and recruiting candidates for employment. Phone interviews are often used to screen candidates in order to narrow the pool of applicants who will be invited for in-person interviews. They are also used as a way to minimize the expenses involved in interviewing out-of-town candidates. If you are lucky you will have a predetermined time for a phone interview, but other calls might come… Continue

Candidate Data Theft - On the Increase

At Pan Eight Consulting, we have worked with a number of clients who have experienced candidate or customer data theft in some shape or form.

The economic downturn is leading to an increase in data theft, with recruitment agencies the worst hit sector and most susceptible.

Increasing competition for a diminishing number of client job offers among agencies is causing a rise in data theft.

Based on a recent survey, among recruiters, three quarters of data… Continue

Campaigning for people to lose jobs. Shame media

I rarely get up on my soap box, but man.. this has really annoyed me.

I love my football, I love my sport, I love hearing about it, I love reading about it and basically I cannot get enough. However this month, there has been a couple of issues arising which really sticks in my craw.... (where is my craw by the way?)

Anyway, in the media here, there seems to be a pre-occupation with people losing their jobs, specifically coaches of football clubs. Aren't we in a recession?… Continue

Tough Time for Nurse Grads

It saddens me that there are many recent grads in healthcare and that few facilities are willing to give them an opportunity. While I do understand that it's a matter of investing time and money into someone who may take off within months, healthcare is sorely in need of nurses. Few nurses are interested in teaching because teaching does not pay as well as other areas of nursing, so though there may be men and women interested in becoming nurses getting into nursing school is not easy. Although… Continue

Let the Games Begin! A whole new Recruiting world awaits....

Let me explain something here to the guys. When you get married, Game Over.

I was playing a video game. It was 2 AM. I was using my Plantronics headset with mic shouting at my team of online gamers (mostly college kids) when all of a sudden my wife pulls the electrical plug.

We were on the last level to slay the Dragon monster and she drops the power strip in my lap. Friggin’ unplugged and offline, my team lost hours worth of… Continue

Should Employers Know What You Post On Your Personal Sites?

According to a study by Deloitte LLP, a majority of employers feel that they have a right to know what’s being posted on personal social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. A rant or negative opinion about a company can end up damaging reputations and divulging secrets valuable to competitors. But most of us can’t help but check up on our personal sites. The most common reasoning for staying active in personal social media goes something… Continue

Effective Networking in your Underwear

new do self port 019

It sounds like everyone’s worse nightmare…. You go to the office and suddenly realize you’re just wearing underpants, or worse nothing at all. I think we’ve all had that dream, am I right?

BUT, in reality it doesn’t really matter how you’re dressed to affectively present yourself in the BEST positive light. From the comfort of your home (wearing whatever), simply get involved and BRAND yourself as the expert that you WANT to be.

Here’s how I roll in my… Continue

BYOBM - If you've got it, flaunt it!

Spring has sprung! Birds are chirping, pedestrians are darting out in front of my car, I narrowly avoid running into people on bikes – seriously some of you people are slightly dangerous. Ahhhhh…. Summer is on its way. And to top it off I’m seeing signs of an upswing in the market. WOO HOO!!

Recently, I was fortunate enough to take part in a few events focusing on job hunting, technology, new products, etc. at the Microsoft building in Cambridge, MA. Can we talk about how… Continue

The marketing tightrope

Marketing a job board is akin to walking a tightrope with two contentious children hanging from either end of your balancing rod. On one side you have your employers, wanting more exposure, better candidates, and yes, their logo in a prominent location. On the other side you have your job seekers, wanting some sort of response from employers, a really great (or at least well-paying) job, and lots of stuff for free.

The challenge? Too many job seekers and you’re most likely spending… Continue

Has the Cellar been reached???

The Employment Guide, job fair employers, and job-seekers at Citifield have given us reason to believe that the sky is the limit once again for this great nation’s economy and job market. On Thursday, May 14th 2009, at 8am people weren’t lined up outside of the Mets new stomping ground to catch an early game. No, the line was full of Job-Seekers galore looking to hopefully help in the lowering of the tremendous 8.1% unemployment rate (www.labor.state.ny.us/) in New York. Upstairs waiting in the… Continue

The F in Recruiter

When you think of the common traits of a recruiter, you typically think about many; driven, motivated, gregarious, talkative, hard working....the list can go on. This list will be full of strong adjectives and can become quite the long list.

I have boiled the traits of a recruiter down into two: Fight or Flight.

A fighter is in it to win, takes the punches, takes his/her bumps, rides the coaster up and down. When pushed/backed into the corner, this person will come out… Continue

Finding a new job with web 2.0

A lot of buzz has been generated around the term, "web 2.0" lately. Over the past year or two, the term was coined to define the evolving nature of how we interact with each other through the internet. With the advent of blogging, social networks, and other interactive features, we can easily connect with people all over the world. When is the last time you looked in the newspaper for a job? Probably not recently. In fact, web 2.0 strategies are spilling over into the job hunting and recruiting… Continue

Market Bouncing Back, Complete Recovery in Sight!!!

You are reading further than the initial headline for a reason. You want to believe. You want a little taste of something that has been sadly absent from business in America of late, positivity. Yesterday, I had a person tell me that he thinks that the United States may never recover, that we may never get back to where we were. The timbre of business conversations harkens back to the “Dot Bomb” fiasco several years ago, only magnified. The damage to the American psyche intensifies every day we… Continue
