VIDEO RESUME – Works When?

I received few days back a candidate Video Resume who is interested for international opportunities and his skill sets was a perfect match for one of my requirements. His video resume gave me an additional bonus to make him stand out from other candidates.

The legal aspect always comes up immediately when it comes to Video Resume in North America. Employers cannot discriminate against an applicant on the basis of race, color, religion, sex,… Continue

What’s in a name?

Naming a career site is something everyone thinks they can do – but few do well. Sorry, folks, it’s true. A good name is hard to find (and a good URL is even harder).

Well, you may ask, why? Let me suggest that these names come in 3 basic flavors, each presenting its own particular set of benefits and problems.

Let's Be Direct About Direct Sourcing

Go Direct Over the last two days I connected with 6 long time friends and former colleagues in corporate recruiting. A few of them have been clients and a few others are professionals in the corporate recruiting space that I routinely chat with about various issues, challenges, strategies and tactics. Pretty much these are open discussion sessions where I learn a ton from each of them and…

Expand Your Talent Search to Find the Perfect Match

Employers need to ask themselves: "Are we missing out on some very talented, very experienced candidates in these other MBA populations?" The answer is yes. Over the past few years, the gap has closed between the full-time MBA student and these experienced part-time, evening, executive and alumni MBAs. Companies are sitting on an amazing pool of talent. And it's reachable though MultiPost job postings and in searchable online resume books powered by… Continue

So Which is Most Effective: Resumes or Job Postings?

If done correctly, resumes AND job posting are the most effective. While resumes allow you to get deeper and more hands-on in the recruiting process, MultiPost job postings can do that work for you. Searchable resume books will help you find the best candidates and the best matches "on paper." But job postings will bring you the candidates who are actually interested in your job opening. And even in this… Continue

Talent STRONG!

In January, before demobilizing back to civilian life, I was honored to speak to a group of over 200 Wounded Warriors in Fort Benning regarding transition into civilian life and what they should convey to prospective employers when trying to separate themselves from the mainly civilian pack when searching for a job. Luckily… Continue

What is your referral to hire ratio?

This is a very important question before any company hires a Recruiter. Some Recruiters are trapped in this question because they have trouble tracking numbers and activity? Objective of hiring a Recruiter is Target deliverables and by asking this question employer will know of what a Recruiter has done in the past and what he/she is going to do for their clients.

I remember when I started it took me several weeks before I ring the bell. But now… Continue

Help with Global Applicant Tracking Systems Stats

It has been a long time since I’ve had a new post. The truth is that I’ve been swamped. I’m experiencing a massive influx in ATS activities. One of the biggest questions I’ve been asked in the last few weeks revolves around the number of companies using applicant tracking systems. While I have a solid understanding about market segments in the US, I would like to gain further insight of applicant tracking systems used on a global scale. From this information, I would like to do some “fun stats”… Continue

The best interview tip I can give you is…botox?!?!

I must be losing my mind. I’ve recently read a comment by a job seeker who is considering botox injections in an attempt to gain a leg up during an interview. I think we can all agree that there are probably companies and work environments that still practice sexism, racism and age discrimination. If you are actively looking for a job, the question you need to ask yourself is, “Do I want to be a part of this type of environment?”

There is a growing market for personal branding and… Continue

Virtual Recruitment Pride March!

Lets have a parade.

I was reading a reply to a question I posed on the Australian Corporate Recruiters site (blatant plug)around why people do Recruitment. A response I received by David Talamelli got me thinking. He responded with "I am still amazed when I see people calling themselves Senior Recruiters with 3-4 yrs exp."

I believe this is due to the fact that people drop out of the… Continue

Fordyce Forum Update - recent recruiting conference

I just got back from Las Vegas for the annual Fordyce confernce filled with big billers. This is not a general recruiting event instead it was a gathering of agency folks (no corporate recruiters to be found) and most those who have experience and generate a good amount of revenue.

I was there to present a workshop on Sales Skills for Recruiters. I was fortunate enough to be able to site in on a few other presentations that I want to share here...…

You Get What You Deserve ...

Ever wonder why certain people get whatever they want? Or how some people always have money and seem to travel and say “What recession!” Does it bother you to think some people might be smarter, quicker, more successful while you continue to struggle, fail and struggle again only to find yourself in the same place? Well, you know what they say, you get what you deserve.

If you are thinking well does that mean if I’m not successful I somehow deserve it? Well, I guess the correct… Continue

Getting Cross with Cross-Over Careerists

When the economy tanks in one sector, the advice you hear from ABC, CNN, Employment Blogs, HR professionals, and even your second-cousin is that you need to target sectors that are growing. That sounds like really smart advice, but like most mainstream pithy wisdom it has it's flaws doesn't it? And I feel like it is our job as talent identification professionals to knock some sense into the growing ranks of "cross-over applicants".

Only Applicants with Experience Need… Continue

Business Etiquette While Eating Out

If you have been asked to a lunch or dinner meeting by your boss or client, or potential boss or client, here are some rules to insure your dining experience is as polished as your business skills. To begin, arrive early. If not traveling together arrive 10 minutes early in order to check your appearance, remove your coat, use the restroom and prepare to greet your host with a smile and a firm handshake.

After being seated it is polite for the… Continue
