Guess What? It’s not about technology at all. It’s about connectivity!

Recruitment and staffing has been around a long time. And I have had the fortune to witness its evolution for almost 30 years. I have worked in many countries and recruited across many sectors.

And guess what I have learned.

The more things change… the more they stay the same!

It was not that long ago that if you walked into a successful recruitment office, every person you saw was on the phone. And why not? There was no computer to tap away on. There was no… Continue

Maybe I have a fear of commitment - but....I hate filling out forms

I admit, I have a fear of commitment on so many things and an unwavering loyalty to certain things that I commit to.

Example #1 Commitment Fear – I am almost OCD when it comes to making decisions on no brainer things in my life (at work, no issues w/this – odd? yes) like flavor of ice cream (do I do vanilla, vanilla bean, french vanilla? AND YES there is a difference) where to go on vacation, etc. because I don’t want to commit to any one thing and always be questioning if the other option… Continue

Facing Talent Challenges Today

To meet today’s challenges, companies world-wide are searching for ways to do more with less. While many strategies offer streamlined processes and ways to add value, the biggest opportunities to meet this challenge lie within the talent themselves and are critical to future success:

• Finding the right talent

• Retaining your top performers

• Ensuring your best employees have the opportunity to thrive

Managing talent can be tough, but it doesn’t have to be. The… Continue

Should Job seekers Pay to use a job seeker board to find jobs?

This was a thought provoking question posted on LinkedIn. What do you think? here's my answer:

“I believe that many so called recruiters and job boards are capitalizing on the high numbers of people ACTIVELY seeking work in order to somehow make it through, themselves. For me, I'm not doing this because I think it dilutes a brand. People should never have to pay for a job. EVER. Job boards are for lazy agency recruiters who don't have time to actually research and source to find… Continue

Before You Begin the Candidate Search, Come Up with a Good Story...

Admittedly, I like to tell stories, and if I may say so, this is one of my strengths as a recruiter. Storytelling can be a powerful tool in the recruitment process.

If you are embarking on a search to find a new team member for your own company or on behalf of a client, one of the first things I recommend (if you haven’t yet done so) is to think about the company’s story. If the company is a startup, you won’t have a lot of history to fall back on, but you can still have a compelling… Continue

No Longer a Candidate's Market-Yet have the challenges really changed?

Just over a year ago the buzz in the market was all about how much today is a buyer’s (candidate’s) market and how there were more jobs than there was talent to fill the openings. From about 2001 to the end of 2007 the economy was souring and the number of jobs being created was increasing at fast rates. It was a time when such statistics as "44 million Gen “X”ers in the workforce to replace 77 million retirees" and "11,000 people are reaching age 55 every day" were staggering numbers that… Continue

Make new friends but keep the old

News flash - these are challenging days! OK, that's sooo old news by now, but nonetheless it still garners headlines. As a profession that relies on a healthy job market, well....need I say more?

Working in a consultancy firm - our clients have always been important to us, but in times like these they are all the more so. I am reminded of that classic little ditty, "Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold". Not to say we think of our clients as merely… Continue

Okay, so you lost your job...how could you be jumping up and down on the couch?

I had an interesting conversation today with one of my clients. Over the last seven years I have been witness to Marks setbacks and successes, his layoffs and his promotions. I've met his wife, his kids, and he has met my sons. I consider him a friend.

This past Friday he was laid off from a software firm that had difficulty securing an additional line of credit. At best, the firm has another 6-8 weeks before they close up shop. Mark called me… Continue

Why Recruitment Brand?

Let me compare recruitment brand with product brand, how important is a

brand for a product....? as important as a name is to a human. The brand is the identity of

the product, the brand is how a product will look to its customers, it acts as the medium of

communication and products brand promotion is so vital the it determines the popularity

of the products in the market, the sales of the product depends upon the brand.

Its the same with a recruitment brand, it… Continue

Revolutionary Road Recruiting

“You want to play house you got to have a job. You want to play nice house, very sweet house, you got to have a job you don’t like.” (John Givings – Revolutionary Road)

I agree, on the surface it is not the most likely of movies that one could relate to Recruiting but I loved the movie Revolutionary Road – I found it to be an insightful and intriguing look at the human psyche. I saw it last night for the first time and will likely watch it again tonight. If you happen to be… Continue
