The Avoidant Economy

Welcome to the Avoidant Economy, where cash is King and companies have made it their thrones as they sit on piles of it. Welcome to delayed decisions, fear of overhead, and the permanent change in the psyche of buyers as a result of the Great Recession. The Avoidant Economy is not going away, in fact, it’s getting broader and deeper as volatility, uncertainty, and fear continue to prompt leaders to pause before making decisions and choices. Even the upcoming election will do little to change…

Whats your "Hello!! "?

We all have our opening lines when we make a cold call....they may be a simple "hello", "how are you?" or "Mr./Ms./Mrs. XYZ, i currently have an opportunity for you which i think would be of your liking!! "

This simple "Hello!!" 'MAY' change the course of the conversation...whether the candidate would feel interested or he/she might just say that he/she is currently in a meeting and to call back some other time!! The tone of the "Hello!" might also affect the conversation and…

3 Places to start when sourcing candidates

When we talk about building a Talent Network, we speak a lot about providing a number of options and ways for candidates to opt-in to this network, whether that’s in job distribution campaigns, on the Career Site or a number of different locations.  But the second half of that equation and just as important is your recruiters / sourcers proactively sourcing candidates into your…

Why I love recruitment

To find something you are passionate about is a gift.

To find something that grants you fulfillment and reward is simply priceless.

There are researchers and scientists dedicating their lives for the opportunity to find cures and promote a better state of living. Doctors and nurses comforting the bodies and souls and extending life so that we may see our grandchildren grow and smile. Teachers who see reward every day in the glow of a child’s eye when they realize they have made a…

My nightmare OBIEE consultant

After one month of hunting, interviewing I placed OBIEE lead developer with unique skills set. He is working happily for 3 days. After 3 three of joining with new client, Called me and mentioned, Jerina” I quite, because I got another offer with 5 dollars more. If you can give me, I will stay.” After all talking, I gave him $3 more and he is working for my client almost 7months now without any issue.

I know I should have strike him out that time itself. My thinking was,

Anyone out there do agency recruiting for administrative healthcare?

I have been given the task of locating medical coders, specifically. The coders my agency wants are of course certified with 3+ years of experience. I am finding them, but not enough that is expected of me. I feel I have maximized the resources we have in our system, so I started cold calling into hospitals in my area (with not too much luck) to add to our database. I also tried to get into seminars that these coders attend to network, however they are all during the week when I am in the…

10 things you hate to ask, but should

What you don’t ask may come back to haunt you! 10 questions every recruiter hates to ask.

How many times do we look to fill our job vs. work as a trusted advisor with our clients and consultants?

It is almost a protective human instinct to shy away from the hard questions or those that we don’t want to know the answer to.  In the business of placing candidates in jobs, we often look for the reason to say yes and avoid all the reasons we should say no.  Saying NO can make…

Selling the “Er”

Sell to the “er” and watch how people suddenly go from disinterest to engaged conversations that lead to sales. For example, if a prospect tells you…

…I’m happy, ask, “What would make you happier?”

…My current vendor is fast, ask, “How would you benefit if we could do it faster?

…I’m getting good service, ask, “What would make it gooder?”

Of course, there is no such word as “gooder,” so you’d say “better” instead! The point is that your prospect was not thinking…

Recruiters DON’T sell – Thank god!

As a Recruitment professional let me let you in on a little secret…. My husband Frank is a Sales person’s worst nightmare (and he could also be your Hiring Manager.)

Why do I share this with you?   I share, because Recruiters might not like to sell, but that doesn’t mean they can’t pick up the phone and develop a friendship with a hiring manager.  Let me show you how easy it could be:

Every year since 1990 Frank has received a card and a calendar from the…

A Remote Recruiter in a Virtual Company – Or Further Reflections of a Rookie Recruiter

By Jennifer Copley, Rookie Recruiter, Q4B

I knew when I began working earlier this summer that the job might only be temporary. I had always had plans to move from my home in Denver to my dream city, Portland, OR (sorry Peyton) and pursue employment with my dream company (think sports apparel, sports marketing and Mr. Knight if you are reading this blog please give me a call).

I was all set to pick up, load up and pack up all of my earthly belongings along with some great…
