At the local market this morning I rounded a corner and witnessed the most astounding sight: a young mother on the business end of a grocery trip, accompanied by three boys under the age of five.
It took a nanosecond to sum up the chaos: while mommy was speaking to a clerk a short distance away, the 4 year old was methodically loading up the basket with jars of jam. In the spirit of cooperation, his younger brother (about 2 and a half I think, seated in the basket and clearly…

so the economy has taken a slight downturn......or haven't you noticed? seriously though, the economy does effect our business. just not necessarily in the way some people believe.
typically, hr and recruiting are areas that are slashed during economic downturns. i believe this is because we have not made a strong enough case to the decision makers about the value we add to the organization. In times like these, we need to be more vigilant in finding the right people for our…

In a
somewhat interesting conversation on ERE, I've observed a trend in response to a Talent Acquisition Director seeking information on how to implement a Sourcing Process into the current mix. Fellow TA Directors seem to be extremely guarded against any non-TA thought processes or insights from 'outside-the-bubble' per se. Being a…

For the summer months the Recruiting Roadshow schedule picks up. Just back from Cleveland, John's pick of community-related posts is preambled with this question:
Did you know that Recruitingblogs.com is the official online community of the Recruiting Roadshow? That means that we encourage each and every participant at a Roadshow to become active on…

great article from the
new york post regarding recruitment video's. for full disclosure, i work for jobing.com which is places a huge focus on recruitment video's.
before i joined jobing, i was a client that utilized the video. i believed it wasa great way to deliver more content to my candidates (passive/active) than just through a job posting or email blast. it was a way to engaged them and tease…

I came across a newsworthy post this morning on
RotorBlog, which is a “Social Networking and Online Communications Blog” written by Andrew Rosen who is also the Founder of one of our favorite sites
Jobacle.
Rosen is spot on when he states that “LinkedIn has been dominating the business social network niche, there’s nothing wrong with that since it has been able to answer the social networking…

I wanted to write something short and sweet about a guy who has over time proved himself to be someone who does good for the industry. His name is
Paul DeBettignies and he lives in Minnesota.
Last year Paul started putting on a local Minnesota recruiting conference and said right from the beginning it will be done every quarter. Well, since then he has made good on that and every quarter his…

Late one Friday afternoon a few years ago a client called me with a couple of IT position she needed to fill fast: CV’s reviewed next week, interviews the week after, the job to start the following week. I knew the client well, I knew exactly what she wanted and I knew the positions would be easy ones to fill. So, I posted a couple of well written job adverts on a number of IT Job Boards, comfortable in the knowledge that, come Monday morning, I’d have a plenty of good response.

There are many different opinions when it comes to this topic. In highly competitive niche industries the best talent is typically gainfully employed by your top one or two competitors. Why settle for table scraps (active applicants) when you can go after "all the fixins"? Is it more acceptable for a Corporate HR department to put this request into the hands of a Third Party recruiter? Is it unethical across the board?
Personally, I think it is the best resource for applicable talent…

There is a lot of information out there about how to use Linkedin and I will admit that I've been slow to recognize the power of Linkedin.
About 6 weeks ago, I had about 20 direct connections with people that I knew well and quite frankly didn't see any advantage in Linkedin over the mulititude of social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and others...what was the point since I was already connected to my friends on Facebook.
And then I got clued in...one of my…
