This post started out as a flippant remark made to someone yesterday, but it made me think further.
There seems to have been another influx of new job boards coming into the already crowded space recently. My question is simple and worrying at the same time. What would stop a foreign owner (doesn't have to be foreign of course) setting up a job board? Then building up a database of CV's quickly, with some fancy promises, only to disappear to 'farm' all the personal information they have…

I really enjoy discovering stories about people who completely change their lives. I admire people who make a plan and stick to it in order to make it happen. That is a fundamental philosophy of this blog…to career courageously through life and to not let people tell you that you can’t do something. As I come across stories like this, I will post them here. We can all learn from each other’s experience.
I found this excellent…

Last year wasn't a fluke for me...I did it again...I filed my taxes on time this year! This may not seem like a great feat, but I used to be notorious for procrastinating on my taxes and filing an extension.
What's been the difference for me, you ask? Well, I got married in 2005 and my wife was not about to let me procrastinate and let the government keep our refund (yes we got one again, which means I need to adjust my W4...). My wife holds me accountable and I love her for it…

Maybe it's just me, but my Sales 101 class told me that if you leave a message 80% of the time you're not going to get a call back. Rather than listen to our team lament about how people don't call back I decided to ask a few pointed questions. Question one was "are you making more than one attempt?" and their answer told me I didn't need to ask any more questions. So I implemented a procedure using our ATS to increase our call back hits & wanted to share it with you.
First off,…

Call me old fashioned, but I don't have a MySpace page. I started one several years ago to blog on, but closed it because I just didn't find any value in a professionally focused MySpace page. That also was about the time I ran into LinkedIn which to me was a more valueable professional networking tool. So I'm just scratching the surface of the Web 2.0 scene outside LinkedIn - a rookie if you will. That's why I'm going to get involved in more blogging and reading this site, ERE.net,…

Excellent question posed by another senior exec in my network: During an active job search, how effective is it to keep in touch with recruiters who only work on a retained basis? The key part to this question is “an active job search” as opposed to “keeping in touch”
This has nothing to do with you (!) by the way. As I’m sure you know, though, active job seekers frustrate easily and, on the other hand, retained recruiters are trying to fill positions at the same time they’re… Continue
