I have recruited for some of the top companies in the third party recruiting industry.
And no matter what company it was, upper management loved their buzzwords – “Forward Thinking”, “Deep Dive”, “Manage Expectations”, “Synergy” – the list goes on and on…

The inability to keep a productive individual can sometimes be a head-scratcher. In reality, it isn’t all that difficult to discern, since there are generally six reasons for it:…

Anyone who has started a new job has probably received an important document in his or her orientation or onboarding packet: The organizational chart.
Organizational charts reveal the overall structure of the company, showing who reports to who, who is responsible for what, and generally establishing the pecking order for the company. Usually, the owner or CEO is at the top, with some vice presidents or senior managers under him or her, midlevel managers under them, and so…

Recruiting fairs are an effective way to meet many candidates for your open positions, scope out the competition for top talent, and network with other recruiters. As an exhibitor, you might think that you have an advantage at such events; after all, you aren’t the one trying to impress potential employers and land a new job.
The…

It feels like you have finally found the perfect employee: A well-rounded, relevant skill set, plenty of experience, and a personality and work ethic that appears to fit well within the team. You make the job offer, but from day one, something feels off. The new employee just doesn’t click with everyone else, and produces subpar work. Within a few months, you’re interviewing candidates for the position, yet again.…

We all want to be the kind of recruiters who have the swaying power to convince candidates to follow us on a journey to pastures new. We like to think that we’re persuasive headhunters, capable of bringing people on board and selling them a vision that completely changes their prospects. But could any of us…

Most modern recruiters generally use LinkedIn to meet all their recruitment needs. At the risk of stating the obvious, the task of a recruiter has never been easy. Moreover sourcing the right candidates at the right time isn’t easy either. But what if you had software or an application that could help you achieve accurate results within a short span of time? Would that change the recruiting process and affect the sourcing results you receive? Is a question that can best be understood by…

Are you getting the right people for your open positions? Do you know why not? What do you need to do to up your game?
It is an epic fail if you post a position description written by the legal department with no input from the hiring manager and your marketing team.
What one thing must the person you hire for that open position do in the first 30 days? Is there more? What about the next…

Like a computer with a well functioning operating system, companies that perform exceptionally well year after year have a well planned Renewable Operating System (ROS). Better than a strategic plan, an ROS creates a better way of doing business with speed, agility, and reduced effort, similar to the powerful processors in today’s technical devices.
The first step I initiate with every leader with whom I work to create an ROS starts with the current “code.” Just like rewriting an…

One side of my family is from Montreal. They are proud French Canadians through and through. Some of my cousins don't speak English.
My old Aunt was a nun. English was her second language. Traveling through France, she quickly found out that the French felt that her French, the Canadian French, was in some way inferior, it wasn't 'French'.

Candidates who have once been laid off (especially recent lay offs) are hungry, appreciative and understand that "It Can Happen To Me". They become loyal!
In my experience, these employees understand that a business will make hard decisions and the employee's who are the most productive, job focused and drama free have a better chance of keeping their jobs than others.
With that said, conduct all of your due diligence during the hiring phase. Let's face it - many employees will…
