You have less than half a minute to catch the attention of recruiter going through your resume. I am not exaggerating, that’s how busy the recruiters are and that’s what they (think) can afford on scanning through each of those dozens of resumes on a typical day.
And if you fail to get them interested in you through your resume you just end up missing many good career opportunities. It does not matter how capable, committed and accomplished professional you are.. what matters is how…

Too often companies decide to “save” $$$$ by cutting back or eliminating fees to agency recruiters. And, why shouldn’t they?
With the advancement of technology and Social Media sites like FaceBook, Linkedin, Monster, Careerbuilder, Myspace, Ping.fm, Flickr, Yahoo Profile, Google Buzz, Delicious, Yammer, Ning, and Twitter; coupled with the progression of Boolean search string technology, targeted email campaigns and online talent communities (Pheww!), the resources…

As you know RecruitingBlogs.com was sold yesterday via auction. There were a lot of people trying to ultimately be the winning bid but in these sorts of things there can only really be one. However, in this particular case there are two, and they are both recruiters in the healthcare industry:
Noel Cocca and Tim…

What does everyone think about this?
You're representing an A candidate. Let's say this person is a hard to find Ruby on Rails or PHP/LAMP Software Developer who has the kind of personality that everyone likes and wants to work with. This is the candidate every company wants and needs. In a tight job market, a seasoned, sharp hiring manager understands that time is of the essence and that time is your enemy. Some companies, knowing this, will make offers and give a very…

Let’s face it, recruiting globally is tough! To have success when recruiting internationally, you need an understanding of what places the best international contacts hang out. This seems no different from recruiting in the US, however, with one major difference. Most of these job boards and recruiting channels will differ based on the country you are looking for candidates in.
While recruiting internationally shares many similarities with what you do in recruiting already…

Our team is working really hard this week to complete a couple of really big projects for some clients. Much of the work on those projects has to do with corporate recruitment processes and staffing organizational design. I was taking a break today from my work, and I reflected on something really important… most of the work of recruiting in organizations happen not…

This is a story that Ben Zander tells in his book The Art of Possibility.
“Two prime ministers are sitting in a room discussing the affairs of state. Suddenly a man bursts in, apoplectic with fury, shouting and stamping and banging his fists on the desk. The resident prime minister admonishes him: “Peter,” he says, “kindly remember Rule…

Some time ago, I mentioned to you all about my daughter who happens to study philosophy and literature in college. Since college is over for the summer, this series is also coming to an end. We’ve discussed multiple different ways her world of arts and my world of business coincide and have even produced a blog series from those very discussions. Today is the final version to those that I have already shared with you and it will be the last in this expansive series. While I believe that…

Missed Connections…Are You Checking In?
Imagine that you are sitting at the local bistro, chowing down on a café sandwich between appointments. Thirty feet away at the burger joint next door, an old colleague is munching on some fries before heading back to the office. You used to work together in retail, but…

Manufacturers have increased the number of online job ads steadily in 2011. Despite being nowhere near the industry high in 2007, they are ramping up recruiting in several fields, including Engineering. In May 2011, the manufacturing sector placed more than 13,000 new online job ads for Engineers and broke a 4-year record number of ads by manufacturers for this field.
Hiring Demand for Engineers in the US over the past 4…

There are no such things as active or passive candidates in the recruitment market, there are only good candidates and the rest. OK, I know that at any one time there are people out there who are actively scouring the market for a new job, and many more who are not. But the point is that this is a candidate perspective, not a recruiter one. Where recruiters can go wrong is in looking for sources of new candidates who are not looking for a new role or may be unavailable to their competitors,…

Earlier this week, we reported that the Supreme Court upheld an Arizona law that, among other things, would make E-Verify a requirement. Some experts predicted that other states would pass similar, but not identical immigration laws, making legal compliance even more difficult for multi-state employers.
It looks…

Negotiating a contractor's pay rate can be one of the most difficult parts of placing a contract candidate. Where do you start, especially if you have had little experience placing the particular position in question?
Luckily, there are a couple of tools on the Internet that can give you a starting place for negotiations:…

I use this analogy quite often with candidates and the reaction is pretty intense. All of a sudden, they get it. That company won’t return your calls? Listen, they’re just not that into you. Blabbing all over Facebook that you nailed your phone interview and expect an offer any day now? Discretion people… discretion. (Honestly it was a phone interview… you’ve got a ways to go, friend.)
For me, this analogy was born during my agency days after a…

In encorporating 3rd Party Recruiters is Corporate HR's function to fill jobs, or simply putting as many qualified candidate resumes in front of all hiring managers with a signed requisition disregarding lack of HA feedback and thus nonexistent interview processes?
Fill jobs, or cover themselves supplying qualified candidate resumes?

As June 26th approaches, HR professionals, industry thought leaders, technology vendors, and many others are getting excited. Excited for what you ask? The one and only SHRM 2011 Annual Conference and Exposition that is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. With a variety of sessions to attend and a number of exhibits to see, I think this year will provide all attendees with a great number of…
