This list, of our Top Ten Niche Job Boards, is just for specialist job boards (not general ones). This list is based on feedback we have heard, websites we have perused and duly inspected and been impressed by. As each sector has its own specific set of job boards, I have chosen the best of the bunch and put them below – in alphabetical order, mind.
My whacky comparison Top Ten this week is got…

Successful corporate recruiting requires focus, time, and hard work. Companies that are very successful finding the top candidates understand that attracting candidates is a sales process. The amount of effort put into the search for the right candidate is reflected in the quality of candidates presented for interviews. Are your company’s hiring managers frustrated in the quality of candidate received? Do they constantly request the aid of search firms (who understand Recruiting is…

ContinueIf most hiring managers knew what games many (not all) HR staffing types play in blocking external recruiters, who can actually fill their hard-to-fill openings,...they would (should) cocoon them and convert them into speed bumps befitting their role in the recruitment process.
Your thoughts?

For most recruiters, the client meeting is key. It is in a face-to-face meeting that the magic happens. This is where your credibility, and the business, is won or lost. It’s here that a recruiter can win exclusivity, secure multiple temp orders, and resolve pricing and service dilemmas.
In fact a great deal of a recruiters time is spent securing the visit. Planning, cold calling, referrals.
Yet, too often, the visit is a wasted opportunity at best, and an unmitigated disaster…

In a sales interview, when asked, "What percentage of budget did you achieve in the last measurable year?" often the answer is, “100%”. Look at the leader-board in any sales organisation and a very small portion of the team is actually…

Your most promising candidate drops out at the last moment. The short-listed candidate refuses to go for an interview. you are frustrated that your candidate just does not talk to you.
These and many other such instances are commonplace in the life of a recruiter. Every candidate gives you enough signs to tell you when he has lost interest in the opportunity that you are discussing with him. (male pronoun is being used throughout this post to represent both…

If a friend tells you, "You have bad breath"--is she now your enemy?
If an enemy tells you, "Damn, you have bad breath"--is he now your friend?
I say yes, to both questions--because knowing your flaws can enlighten your general and specific outlook about yourself and others. And those who approach you with such insights have personal and professional motives. Your challenge is to decipher the difference.
How this applies to recruitment; the selection…

As a recruiter, it is obviously important that you match an employee and potential employer well. Aside from the obvious issue of compensation, there is the longer term issue of your reputation (you know what I mean - if too many of your placements don't "work out" you end up wearing this reputation and it can be hard to shake).

No such thing as too much communication!!
As with any relationship communication is key. I have found it is far better to over communicate than under communicate. Clients appreciate knowing what is going on and one of the biggest complaints about recruiting is lack of communication. One of the biggest ways to do this is to manage your inbox. Do not let it become overwhelming and a place where emails go to die. Stay on top of it. Respond to…

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends”- Dominique Pirolo, 2011
It is an interesting thought that we would give that much power over our affairs to people who may not always have our best interest at thought.
Dealing with those who go against the grain is nothing new, so to think these individuals will agree to your ideals is quite a stretch. Its those whom we refer to as friends that deserve to be…

On the occasion of a wonderful long weekend dedicated to family, food, and fun it’s imperative to remember what this holiday celebrates. Over the course of generations, Americans have sacrificed their youth, their bodies, and all too often their lives to protect our nation and its citizens. To pay homage to these incredible sacrifices is the very least each of us can offer, but it is even better to try to repay these brave patriots with something more tangible. For those of us involved in…

A few weeks back I started a discussion thread on LinkedIn titled “In-house recruiters rejoice! The cold call is dead. As a newbie recruiter I was keen to “cut my teeth” in the industry and “earn my stripes” as quickly as possible, I wanted to be up there with the best of them. As a complete novice I believed that I had to work on anything and everything that came across my desk, no matter how unqualified it was or how many other recruiters were working on the same requirement.
Obviously there are a number of drawbacks with this approach, among them being that you spread yourself to thin, you are…
