What Not To Post - The Frightening Truths Your Friends Are Too Afraid To Tell You

Once upon a time there was a runaway hit television show on BBC named "What Not To Wear". For those of you who are not familiar with the premise of this show, it involves a very no-nonsense and somewhat confrontational approach to unsuspecting individuals whose family members and friends have nominated them to be subjects of the show. Trinny and Susannah take a hard look at the clothes that people wear and proceed to list all of the fashion sins they are committing. People expect their friends… Continue

Failing to see the .Jobs hype

I admit: I just don't get it. (dot)Jobs is hyping itself up to be the greatest thing for recruiters since sliced bread.

That's one extreme.

The other extreme is recruiters who are absolutely outraged at the process in which .Jobs is being implemented.

~I get this much: .Jobs seems like a… Continue

The 2% Difference

I have consistently contended that executives who tolerate “B” and “C” players on their teams give up a lot. Let me now quantify it:

Let’s say you are a CEO with 5 key management team reports, running a $50 million (revenue) company. Let’s say that you project 10% revenue growth next year, but…

POLITICAL POLARITY: How is it affecting your recruiting?

by Nanci Lamborn – BrightMove Recruiting Software

When I decided to actually venture into the shark infested political waters and write this post, the results of my online search for recent articles or news stories related to this topic turned up absolutely nil. And it’s certainly no wonder. Our nation is becoming perhaps the most politically polarized group of citizens that we have ever seen in our…

Talent Management Moments of Truth The Cytiva TalentTalk Webinar series is a lot of fun to do. Working with our Senior Talent Management Consultant, David Freeman always enlightens me. The discussions that arise during these webinars, like all discussions that aim to examine and improve, are always eye opening and always give me new perspectives.

LinkedIn Kung-Fu

This week I looked up from my keyboard to see more than just a few unread messages sitting in my LinkedIn Inbox. And while the number was a hefty three digits, I put time on my calendar and committed to get through them all before the weekend. Luckily I managed to knock them all out and hit zero yesterday - but it wasn't without struggling through a fair amount of… Continue

What makes you more employable in 2010 #8 Networking

Today we are discussing trait #8 networking, to make you more employable in 2010.

Networking is essentially getting to know other people, their abilities, and interests for the mutual benefit of each other. It brings that saying “It’s not what you know, but who you know that gets you the gig” so true. Connecting with the right people is more important today then ever before.

In this age of cut…

Who Wants To Join a Winning Team?

When leading talent looks for something new, what challenges do they look for?

Here’s a current story from sport that interests me (not just because I support the team he plays for!) and illustrates the dilemma.

Aside from the World Cup, followers of UK Football will no doubt be treated to another summer of speculation from the sporting media over, amongst other things, whether or not the footballer Cesc Fabregas will leave London and return to Spain.

Do you "KIS" with your candidate's resume?

I have been around the business for a long time. Early on and being far less intelligent, something debated to this day I might add, I was quick to use the resume given to me by candidates to present them to my clients. I did little to nothing to change anything on the resume.…

Toyota is Human After All: Cracks in Quality in the World's Best Brand

Coke’s the real thing. (So much so, they sell bottled water.) Everyone loves Google. (Or used to.) Everyone loves Apple. (Except all the folks who don’t.) Everyone’s crazy about Starbucks. (Except for tea drinkers, Peet’s fans, fans of small business, and so on.)

Besides being insanely popular and having detractors, what do these brands have in common? Well, not much—except they all rank at or near the top of Interbrand’s list of the world’s most valuable brand by brand… Continue

Know when to hold ‘em, and when to fold ‘em….

Suit? No suit? Business casual…. What does that even mean? It’s 95 degrees out and you’re hauling down the street in a full suit, button down, and tie. You’re lost. AWESOME… and to top it off, you have about 1 minute to find where you’re interviewing and all of a sudden – nobody around you seems to speak English. Wait? So Park Street turns into Park Place but I have to cross over the highway? AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Nightmare? NOPE.… Continue
