The trough of the economic downturn was reached in April 2009.
Job losses continued through October 2009, but at a declining rate, with job gains finally turning positive in November 2009, at around 20,000 or so.

For those of you who work in agencies and are placing contractors I have some questions for you.
What are agencies getting for Markups on Contractors these days, Percentage?
How many of you are offering benefits on W-2 contractors? If so, what are you offering?
How many do not offer benefits on W-2 contractors?
How many of you are placing 1099's, and how often?
What is the average number of contractors a Recruiter should have on assignment,…

I really love the crew at rbc.
I used to love hanging out at the site.
Then chat failed, then the format changed, then chat changed again, then the talent talks got canceled, and now I can't find my way around.
Please remember that too much change is not always a good thing. Some of us need a little stability. And I need SEARCH BOX ON THE MAIN PAGE!
There is so much good information here, but I fear that too…

If everyone liked to negotiate. the world would be full of lawyers. However, nobody wants to feel like they are being taken advantage of. Set a reasonable goal for yourself when negotiating for a new job or even a raise or promotion at your current job. Decide what would really make you happy, and think what you could settle for and still be satisfied. Put yourself in the shoes of the company making the offer and develop a realistic worth of your…

I've been working like a dog and I was not feeling particularly motivated today so I put the question out on Twitter.....
Has anyone made a placement today?
I was promptly reminded by Jerry Albright (the Twittering Maniac) that, of course not, not this crowd. Everyone on Twitter is coaching or sharing advice, not making placements. The people making placements are busy doing the placement making work. So I thought if I wanted to find someone who made a placement today,…

Interesting.....
Some, rather most organizations reject his CV today because he has changed jobs frequently (10 in 14 years). My friend, the ‘job hopper’ (referred here as Mr. JH), does not mind it…. well he does not need to mind it at all. Having worked full-time with 10 employer companies in just 14 years gives Mr. JH the relaxing edge that most of the ‘company loyal’ employees are struggling for today. Today, Mr. JH too is laid off like some other 14-15 year experienced guys – the…

When looking for a job, references can give you the edge over other qualified candidates. But good references don't just happen, they need to be created, coached and informed. Choose people that know you and your work. A well known top executive may be an attention getter on your reference list but if he's contacted, and hasn't heard of you, then you are sunk. Make sure your references know who you are, what you can offer a potential employer and that…

I am sure someone else has already figured it out but I just did and was excited to share. I realized that when I inmail someone with a private profile, once you send them an inmail you can go back in to review that inmail and Linkedin actually adds in the first name of that person to the message. Gold mine! That just made it so much easier to call in to the company. I have a list of first names and job titles! Yeah!!!
