Job Boards Aren't Working

Why Aren’t Job Boards Working?

  • too many results that aren’t a good fit
  • keyword searching provides inaccurate, irrelevant matches
  • finding a match is too time consuming
  • limited ability to pre-screen online

Anyone have any more ideas why job boards aren’t working online right…

On why some recruiters have a bad reputation...

Quote for the Day: Friday, August 10th, 2007

"Recruiting has a fairly bad reputation. It is often spoken of as a profession where people stretch the truth, promise what they cannot deliver, and act only in self-interest with candidates.

Candidates tell stories about recruiters who were initially friendly and helpful, promising them assistance in negotiating for a position, and who then quickly ignored them when the client did not express interest. Some…

Finding my voice

I’ve been engaging in something this week that a lot of people find to

be, well, let’s see… vile. Yeah. That’s a good word - a lot of people

look at what I’ve been up to as vile. I don’t think it is, though. I

think I’m actually providing a service. I am giving people an

opportunity to do something that they might not be able to do

otherwise… I’m trying to help them find a new, different, exciting,

COOL job.…

Recruiting Related Ning Sites

I am amazed at how many Recruiting Related Ning Sites have popped up lately. If you have one, please let me know. I would like to do two things.

1. Get a listing here on RecruitingBlogs.com of them
2. Pick up the feed from them and mash them all together so I can offer up one feed.

Thanks

On changing stereotypes: The Boss...

Quote for the Day: Thursday, August 9th, 2007

"The stereotype of the boss is changing: Today's successful manager is generally more of a facilitator than an autocrat. Yes, managers can unilaterally hire, fire, and evaluate employees, but much of the job entails running meetings, guiding teams, building consensus, collaboratively setting policy, and troubleshooting. Happy managers enjoy that process, and would rather plan, inspire, and guide than crank out reams…

Medical Practitioners

Our company is kicking off a nationwide search for Family Medical Practitioners, specifically PA's, RN's and Medical Assistants for a client who is opening up retail/critical care centers in Texas and Kansas. I would appreciate any and all assistance... information on associations, industry links, personal referrals, etc. Even the name of your family practioner if you live in Dallas or Kansas City.

On communications, another bullshit job...

Quote for the Day: Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

"Essentially you're getting paid well - in the six figures up to 50 percent of your base for bonus - to write e-mails, memos and articles for senior management that their employees have no interest in reading. Oh, and through these written communications we're supposed to inform and engage employees so that they're proud of the company they work for."

XEROX is Optimized with Jobs2Web

Early last year I introduced one of Xerox’s staffing leaders, a friend of mine who we’ll just call Dave to ensure his phone doesn’t ring off the hook after this post, to the concept of Search Engine Optimization for recruitment purposes. After only a few conversations Dave took the SEO ball…

On the paradox of Voodoo Metrics...

Quote for the Day: Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

"Despite management's obsession with hard numbers, many organisations are a fact-free zone, swirling with untested

assumptions. Horrifying sums of money are committed on superstition or

whim. Thus, fact-based management is really triple-distilled common

sense. It's hard. It requires judgment, practice, help, humanity and

wisdom. It needs scepticism and experimentation. It needs reasoned

optimism…

On 21st century workplace revisonism...

Quote for the Day: Monday, August 6th, 2007

"Hierarchical, system-centered thinking, while not warm or fuzzy, has produced enormous benefits over the last century, and more gains are likely to be in store. Its single-minded focus on maximizing efficiency has driven productivity in manufacturing and much of the service sector higher and higher. Such gains would have been hard to achieve if managers gave workers free rein."
