It’s funny how the view of managers can be similar to those of parents and to the decisions of the children. In checking a reference on a recent recruit (only 3 years in the business on now looking for job number 3) I was speaking with his first manager. He went on about how talented the candidate was his value to the organization and of course how he completely screwed up by leaving (simply for money).
So there you have the stereotypical idea among managers when their Jr. to Mid…

Dear Claudia,
I'm a corporate college recruiter, and find myself spending a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of time coaching candidates so they present well to hiring managers. I'm not talking about technical skills, which are fine; I'm talking about basic things like using good manners, writing communications that aren't filled with text message cryptics or emoticons, or setting expectations that are marginally realistic. It happens daily, and I am really starting to resent that I have… Continue

So here you are, in the midst of a down economy. The question, what now?
I tell you it's all about how much passion you deliver on a daily basis, it is the epic defining moment for a professional to add value and build rapport that unearths a deepening resolve to find the quality that is needed. Can you make a difference? Absolutely.
Can you build a new direction? Absolutely.
Can you become competitive when all around you says that this is a time where business…

In our lifetimes, many of us have had the opportunity to work with leaders who displayed great leadership values every day. These true leaders were interested in our personal growth, showed compassion to every team member and cared for the success of the entire organization. I am sure a few of us have had the unfortunate times of working with managers who we want to stay away from for ever. How do we identify the creme de la creme among the leaders that we want to work for? What do we look for…

Most of us spend an enormous amount of time at work, sometimes wondering if we work to live or live to work. There should be no confusion on why we live on this planet. Definitely, not to work 80 hr weeks in a job that one does not have a passion for. How does one realize own passion to make a living? A job where you are eager to jump out of the bed most mornings, get to work and kick some butt.
How and when does one realize ones own passion to make a living? When does one make the…

Now's the time when most employers are hitting the campuses at full speed and doing some networking the old fashion way - in person. With campus events gearing up everywhere to help keep students make (what we think will be) great career and/or intern decisions it's important to have a good story to tell - and a
booth or activity that draws their attention (shameless, I…

I get many calls from people (potential candidates) asking about PHC Consulting’s services. The two main questions are always the same: “How much does it cost?” and “Why can’t I apply directly to the company?”
Although I am a niche recruiter (all medical sales-related jobs: laboratory sales, pharmaceutical sales, clinical diagnostics sales, biotechnology sales, surgical equipment sales, hospital equipment sales, medical supply sales, imaging sales, pathology sales, cellular products…

Well as we get closer to the end of the year we tend to look back over our shoulders and see what kind of tracks we have left throughout the year. I look over my shoulder and I am able to see that I have not to big of an imprint this year. Its been a transitional year as I have moved into a company that has been doing pretty average in sales. I have also found that I keep pretty busy but would it be busy enough if it were my own company? To be perfectly honest probably not, but I am earning my…

I'm no financial expert. Perhaps now would be a good time to be one.....or perhaps the worst time. I don't know. I'm having a hard time understanding what is really going on in the economy beyond the headlines. And I do understand the headlines!
I am sure however that we are heading into one of the darkest economic times in our history - and clearly the darkest of my own lifetime. You do realize our economy was on the brink of collapse last week, don't you? Collapse!
