When I read the article "Former HR Chief at AIG, Others Charged in Alleged Headhunting Scam" late last year in Workforce Magazine, I was extremely disappointed that the recruiting profession was exposed to this negative press regarding a situation that was extremely avoidable.

You’ve bought a new suit for your interview and you’ve practiced your answers to possible interview questions, but that isn’t where the preparation ends.
You might want to also practice your speaking abilities so you can leave a great and lasting impression.
I’m not talking about learning and using big, elaborate, “10-cent” words, but rather following some basic rules of speech:
* SLOW DOWN
* BE CONFIDENT IN WHAT YOU ARE SAYING
* AVOID FILLER… Continue

Corporate Recruiting: Action Steps During a Recession
Things that recruiting and HR can do to protect the budget
Monday, April 14, 2008 | by Dr. John Sullivan
Anyone who has worked in corporate recruiting for any period realizes they work in a profession that has dramatic up-and-down cycles. Unfortunately, the down cycles following rapid growth tend to be the harshest. Who can forget the literal "implosion" of world-class recruiting functions like those at…

IT Recruiting is one of the most complicated environments I have ever worked with. Largely it has to do with all the levels of employees needed and all the people and organizations involved with having someone start working....
Here are a few examples...
1.)
Job boards- There are people, like myself, who work for a job board. We are all out there filtering through candidates and presenting them to different recruiters and companies
2.)

Sarah Needleman wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal on May 6, 2008 giving tips on how to properly work with executive recruiters. I have summarized the bullet points, most of which were given by Danny Cahill of According to Danny. For the full article please go here.
Generally speaking, I agree with most of these points as they relate to a specific “job search” which I define as follows - a candidates gets out of bed, decides to make a job change, updates resume, goes on…

JOB INTERVIEW
Employer: “How long did you work during your last job?”
Candidate: “30 years.”
The Employer hesitated for a moment because the Candidate was obviously only in his 20’s, but he wasn’t sure how to proceed.
The Candidate sensed some confusion.
Candidate: “You’re wondering how old I am, right?”
Employer: “Yes…”
Candidate: “I’m 27 years-old. Now you’re wondering how…

As an owner and manager of an IT recruiting company we are constantly talking to candidates and clients alike about the advances of technology and how it can impact our industry or potentially help us run our business better. Over twenty plus years I’ve gone from a 100% paper environment to an almost paperless existence and seen the rise of the fax machine, PC’s, the Web, company websites, job boards, social networks and many different software tools developed specifically to assist our…

It is 2:39 am and I am in my hotel room typing away. I am writing my ideas and strategies for the next week along with some time sensitive information, but my computers freezes and I loose hours of work that I wrote because today for some reason I wasn’t saving every five minutes. This moment is a defining moment for me because my stress level is at an all time high and while it is my fault for not saving I can’t turn the clock back now.
Everyone has had a stressful moment or time…

Those that are avid users of networking sites liked Linked In/Viadeo/Plaxo in EMIA - good for you. How long will these great tools last? Are we going to see these tools decline due to over use and excessive contact requests making candidates shy away? This appears to happening to some extent in the US?

Dear Claudia,
A recruiter in my office recently landed a VP search for a company I used to work for. I know a lot about this company’s dirty laundry, and the leadership is generally ruthless and unethical. I tried to warn the recruiter before he took the search, but he doesn’t seem to care about the background information. My real problem is that it’s now my job to generate candidates to fill this role. I absolutely don’t want to work on this search. Am I right to feel this way?… Continue

The State of the Job Market- Why IT professionals hate Recruiters?
In my career, I was a recruiter. I networked and called people from the Job boards. When I transitioned to IT recruiting, I was blown away by the open animosity toward me for merely calling them. It perplexed me because they should be expecting my call since they posted their job online. I then felt I needed to prove my technical knowledge in order to gain respect or slip in that I went to college for IST. Only after…
