Reasons Not To Watch The News

Unrelated to research I suppose, but this was on my mind this evening!

I don't subscribe to any newspaper. I try to avoid watching the news on TV at all cost.

You're probably thinking, "Geez, she's so disconnected from what's going on in the world. How could you possibly expect to keep up with everything that's happening? What's wrong with watching the news? It's important to know what is happening around you."

Why??

Why is it important to know about everyone…

What do you mean? You think your blog is PERSONAL?!? Hahahahahahaha!!!

I recently came across this article by Perry Binder in the Atlanta Business Journal discussing whether or not companies should allow their employees to blog. Binder's take on personal blogs is simple - as he puts it... "Let 'em blog."

Many workers have the innocent, yet misguided, notion that what they do on their time with their home…

On the virtues of work experience...

Quote for the Day: Friday, July 6th, 2007

"It's a curious thing, this esteem we have for longevity. Why is an anniversary cause for celebration? I can see it in some Purple Heart sense--congratulations for surviving--but that doesn't seem to be the spirit in which such celebrations are intended...

What's the big deal about being married to the same person, or working for the same company, for so many years? Is it supposed to be some expression of loyalty,…

Roller Coaster ride

I recently went to a large Amusement Park here in Ohio for a two day respit to re-introduce myself to my kids (that means paying for admission, doling out spending cash, and casting them off for the day). As my wife and I we were climbing the hill on my favorite rickety roller-coaster, awaiting the big drop that I knew was inevitabley to come ( I have rode the same coaster for over ten years), I realized that what I was about to experience in the next twenty seconds, will be a condensed…

Hello World!

Since the recruiting space is one of Broadlook's markets I thought I'd open up a page here to meet
and converse with recruiters about their research practices. Write me a note and tell me how you
use the Internet in your day-to-day recruiting.

How Can I Use RecruitingBlogs To Its Fullest?

Okay, so I just did the "regular" thing. I cross posted the latest posting from the FRACAT Blog to my blog here.

I know that'll probably get some additional traffic and visibility. And I know that's what a lot of you are doing, too.

But I'm looking at the possibility of spending significant time on RecruitingBlogs (I just changed my color scheme, after all) and I want to get the most out of this community that I can.

Tell me,… Continue

How To Strategically Plan Your Vacation Time for Less Stress, Greater Productivity, and Gloating Rights

Let me ask you a question about this week. Did you see July 4th in

the middle of this week and think to yourself, “Self - We could go on a

9 day vacation and only have to take 4 days off from work!”?

I know a lot of people have done just that. Well, here’s my newsflash for you:

Congratulations! You’re now a month behind and many dollars poorer.

What’s more, if you had thought more strategically about your vacation, you could be way ahead of your…

On managment trivia and leadership "small talk"...

Quote for the Day: Thursday, July 5th, 2007

"This is a serious malaise. Managers feel comfortable discussing trivial issues because there's less at stake. Important issues cause trouble because discussions about them can lead to people taking difficult decisions. Difficult issues don't usually need experts to solve them. They need willing people to try to understand, evaluate, make a decision and then do…

The 4th of July means...

The 4th of July is about celebrating our freedoms and remembering just how we were able to win and defend them. To me, the 4th of July is represented in the symbols of our freedom, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, and…

Bigger and Better Wireless?

All this buzz about the new iPhone got me wondering how far we are on the road to having "broadband in our hand". I was at a very informative IEEE luncheon this week. The speaker was Dan Green from TriQuint…

SourceCon behind the veil

I am seeking to confirm information (which I already have) pertaining to who is backing the conference.

Surely there is a reason for the tight information security.

I believe Shally is involved as an adviser, can anyone confirm ?

I believe Leslie (whom I admire) is a central cog in the machine and given what I believe I know about her that is a plus.

I would not be surprised if Rob is strategically involved.

Jim - you know something, I saw your "Recruiters…

So This Is Blogging

I've read RecruitingBlogs.com for a little bit now. I still haven't formed an opinion just yet. It's interesting to say the least. I've been to so many recruiting communities where the objective was to link to everyone and their grandma, or post jobs all day long. I like to observe and start off with connecting to folks I "know". I've gotten 6 invites since I officially joined here. I haven't accepted or declined them yet. To those who've invited me to connect, please don't take it personal.… Continue

On Human Capital, you get what you pay for...

Quote for the Day: Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

"The problem with the term “Human Capital” is that it perpetuates the notion that human beings are interchangeable anonymous widgets. People who are treated as if they were capital, start to behave like capital. They move to the source of the highest return as quickly as possible without regard to loyalty."

John Sumser, Strategic…
