What makes me a Smart Recruiter?

I was due for another post anyway and what better subject for that post than ME! I’ve never put a lot of thought into what makes me a smart recruiter, I’m usually much more focused on what will make me a “smarter” recruiter.

1. So I guess that’s the first thing – I am a sponge, always looking to learn new ways to do what I do better.

2. I came to in-house, corporate recruiting from a TPR background. The learning experiences from that part of my career have carried over to… Continue

Watson Wyatt Study Suggests Hard Times For Employees

Watson Wyatt, a global consulting firm focused on human capital and financial management, found more than one in five companies (23 percent) plan to make layoffs in the next 12 months, with almost two in five (39 percent) reporting that they have already done so.

“All indications are that 2009 will be a difficult year for both companies and ultimately employees,” said Laura Sejen, global director of strategic rewards consulting at Watson Wyatt. “It will be up to employers to find an… Continue

What makes me a Smart Recruiter

Wow, so much I could say! Thankfully, humility is not always required to be a Smart Recruiter. So without further ado, 5 things that make me a Smart Recruiter.

1, Understanding this is a business of People and not of Paper. That everyone hates working but you can love your job. That there is a tushie for every seat, and you never know who you might be able to help find their next opportunity.

2. Doing my best to stay on the cutting edge of what we do for a living, like… Continue

Principles Learned In A Dale Carnegie Course

Tonight I rejoined the Dale Carnegie course this time as a coach rather than as a student. It is quite amazing how life opens interesting doors that propel us forward. Networking is so powerful, as I undertake this latest opportunity, it would appear that the New Year is vital, strong, full of promise, indeed challenges do lie ahead in this economy but nothing can stop desire, real luck and patient resolve.

In 5 years as a HR professional, I see myself having grown in leaps and… Continue

Three Decidedly Un-Christmaslike Observations

There are times in your life when you have a dawning of realization, a flash of insight - as though a veil of ignorance is parted and you see the naked truth for what it is. Sometimes these little nuggets of meaningfulness will impact you for the rest of your life. Other times, they are simple life truths that you will incorporate into your knowledge bank and draw on these items almost daily as you negotiate the twisty turny phenomenon that we call living. And then there are the moments of… Continue
