2009 is here! Do companies need to wake up?

I cant believe 2008 is gone. What a great year for Recruiting for some, for others, not so much. I have seen so much great talent this year and even more companies that ignore the fact that they have stiff competition for talent. I see them assuming that the "same old same old" will hook them and land them too.

Always a sucker for a survey, I would ask ..What are your thoughts on this ? Do companies today have huge blind spots or is it just me? If not, In what ways do companies need… Continue

My take on MPC Candidates

This is a response I wrote to a question on linkedin a few months back.

An MPC has to have it all there in the first place - the skills, the work history, realistic compensation expectations.

However, here is what seperates an MPC from just a good candidate - in other words, someone I'm going to spend TIME marketing....

1. Loyalty and exclusivity. I ask my potential MPC's for 2 to 5 day EXCLUSIVITY - in other words, someone my competition can't deliver to the… Continue

If you were driving down the street and you saw a Billboard but you couldn't make out what it said because the worlds were too small and the message was hidden in a thousand words, you would probably not understand it or crash your car trying to figure it out.......

The Complete Career Campaign ™: Defining My Offer, Designing My Life

This is a very exciting week for me! I recently took on a big challenge and taught myself how to use Adobe’s Dreamweaver software to build my own webpage. I have now officially launched the Career Courageously site.

The process of building a webpage is much more than learning code and picking colors. It actually forces you to crystallize your offers and build a cohesive brand around those offers. It was in this process of… Continue

How to Tame 500-Pound Gorillas (a.k.a., Your Hiring Managers)

I came across this on www.ere.net. I thought I should share this with all.

In a recruiter survey, 50% of most hiring problems are attributed to the lack of assessment, interviewing, and recruiting skills on the part of the hiring manager.

Taming this 500-pound gorilla is the big problem that should be addressed, not seeing more candidates who won’t get hired by anyone. From this cynical perspective, here are some ideas on how to tame your personal gorillas:

Now web experts www.peoplecompare.co.uk ask whether the ever-growing convenience and popularity of the medium means vocal communication will eventually get a… Continue

Stop Calling "My" People!

Dave Staats loves these calls.

HR Director from a company we’ve had no relationship with in the past called about 2 of our people leaving too many messages for their people. I got a 13-minute lesson on “After you try a certain number of times and get no response you should know they are not interested.”

Great and clever phone sourcing tip included in this… Continue

Matchmaker Matchmaker

Claudia Help!

I have noticed more and more candidates blurring the lines of business and social networking online. Here’s a recent example that almost caused me to lose a client: one of my candidates sent a LinkedIn request to a hiring manager before her interview. Both the HM and I thought that was odd, but we thought it was just over-enthusiasm. She didn’t stop there though; she invited the CEO to connect as…
