LinkedIn’s IPO a few weeks ago was a defining moment in staffing. I took it as a sign that we had reached an official turning point in the struggle to jump-start the economy. Yes, I know, we aren’t there yet – some people say unemployment hasn’t recovered quite yet at 9.1%. Although,…

This originated in a conversation I had with a columnist on
TheLadders. I am a Recruiter and Business Development VP for
Elever Professional, a nationwide search firm with consultants in Austin, Los Angeles and New York. Our consultants are in the business of farming professional relationships. In rather broad fashion, I'm offering some professional insight into how job seekers can…

…but rather what you can do with Social Networking...
Very simple and straight forward isn’t it?
A lot of time as a sourcer OR a recruiter, you wonder how best any specific tool or website can help you. I think it is about your approach and mindset as a sourcer that decides the outcome. Many times we…

The State of Alabama has passed what some have considered one of the toughest immigration laws in the country. The law was passed initially by a large voting margin and comes in the wake of the recent United States Supreme Court ruling on the Arizona's Legal Worker's Act of 2007 that sanctions businesses for hiring undocumented workers. Businesses in Arizona face fines and even loss of business license for repeated offenses.
As with the Arizona law, the new Alabama statute mandates…

A topic of discussion in many an interview I've had with senior sales professionals is 'lead generation' and 'cold calling' and their willingness to pick up the phone to generate a new business opportunity. Many well established career sales people I've met feel as though they have moved…

Interesting data on facebook Business Insider
The WOW factor is slowing down possibly, most people figured out what it is and are losing interest.

Onshore, Offshore, Outsourcing, Insourcing....there are all different words for it but one great Constant: Talent Pipelines
I've been interviewing with a large breadth of companies. These are stellar organizations all technically innovative and all have the same challenge. How do they create a new ecosystem of talent for their current and future needs? Talent is their number one concern but yet many are approaching employment strategies in tradition ways and are not ready…

As an Executive Recruiter and a Sr. Consultant charged with training internal recruiting groups on how to effectively grow teams to peak performance through recruitment and succession, I must track the trends of what key characteristics and skill sets employers look for.
Over the last 5 years, some of the buzz words that I’ve seen come and go…

You’ve been there before. You spent weeks and weeks recruiting on an assignment and you are sitting there scratching your head wondering why your client doesn’t call you back from any of the three messages you have left him.
Remember the first cardinal rule of human behavior? “People only do what is in their own best interests.” If that red-hot client turned into a lukewarm message-returner, then there’s some sort of reason why he isn’t calling you back.
Two…

The Spring HR and Recruiting/Staffing conference season is almost complete (we have the exciting SHRM Annual Conference still upcoming in at the end of June). I must say, I have thoroughly enjoyed the 2011 conference season. Most of the sessions I attended at ERE Expo Spring 2011 and at the SHRM Talent & Staffing Management conferences were excellent! The…

It is more obvious than ever that recruiting teams have to diversify their recruitment marketing efforts. Every person I speak with has an egg timer (no pun intended) on their job board contract. Will they swear off job boards completely? Universally, they will spend less. The smart money is moving to digital recruiting through targeted advertising and social…

When I travel I like to bring a few books along to read on the plane, in airports, on trains and just have with me as I sit in some beautiful piazza on the Italian coast not wanting to look like a typical tourist.
One of the books that I brought along on this recent trip to Italy was Visionary Business by Marc Allen or Visionari Affari in Italian. The…

My palms were not the only thing sweating as I came in for only my third landing as a student pilot. It was after this moment that I acknowledged how much out of my comfort zone I was by taking on the challenge of learning to pilot a Cessna Skyhawk. “Why am I doing this,” I had to ask myself? Because many of the great things in my life have come as a result of pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
As an executive, leader, salesperson, or staff member, you have the opportunity to…

Good question, but what sort of recruiter do you want to be?
Much has been written this year about the failings of the recruitment industry.
Many have tried to put a positive spin on this.
But in reality it’s not the industry itself, but management within the industry.
There has been, for many years a universal expectation within the industry that for recruitment consultants to succeed they must be highly skilled salespeople, be able to account manage clients and…
