Stop Job Search Failure Before it Starts

Experiencing failure can be one of the most difficult parts of a job search for candidates and recruiters alike.  For candidates, finding out that you were turned away from a job because you do not fit the job description or company culture can be very discouraging.  For recruiters, whose job it is to find the right match between candidates and hiring companies, failure can be also be extremely disappointing when all of your hard work results in letting your client and candidate…

Passive Candidate search tool- does anyone still have the link?

Several months ago a passive candidate search tool was posted on here. It was a Google-based search if I remember correctly.

When I went back to use the link I bookmarked it was no longer working. Does anyone still have it? Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Creating an Organizational Recruitment Strategy

Recruitment Strategy is probably one of the most misunderstood and misused terms tossed about in our industry today. Try asking your clients and colleagues to define the term, and we guarantee that you will get very different responses. Recruitment Strategy means entirely different things to different recruitment stakeholders (line managers, hiring leaders, HR professionals, recruitment professionals). Still searching for answers…try googling the term or searching through respected industry…

How to improve the Home Run Derby (& your Recruiting)

As I was driving into work this morning, I was listening to 98.5 The Sports Hub (by far the best sports radio station in Boston) and they were talking about last night’s All Star Game Home Run Derby.  However, instead of talking about the great performances of Adrian Gonzalez and Robinson Cano (who won), they focused on one topic: how could they make the event better!

To this one simple question, listeners and the on air personalities were able to come up with a bunch of…

Survey Says: More Employers Than Ever Recruit on Social Networks

Jobvite Survey No longer just the shiny new object in the toolbox, social media recruiting has become an integral part of sourcing and hiring.

A Jobvite survey out this morning says 89 percent of the respondents to its poll (most of them not Jobvite customers) said they are either already using some form of social media in their recruiting or will in the next year. They are also having success; 64 percent said they’ve actually…

Give those recruiters a red card, ref..

Anyone can tell you that a bad experience tends to unfortunately stick out in your head more so than a good experience. It can just take one person to really upset a company brand but a whole group of people can do some serious damage and in this case, it most certainly has.

The following tale is by no means tarring the bunch of wonderful recruiters that are out…

Jobs in Pods Celebrates 4 years and 800,000 downloads

“If you podcast they will come”

That is what I believed would happen when I launched this jobcast service 4 years ago in the online recruiting world. And that is what happened. Listeners came in droves and our clients reaped the benefits of humanizing their companies. One podcast (aka jobcast) at a time.

Today I am proud to… Continue

In Pursuit of Happiness (#SHRM11 Learnings pt. 2)

"It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere." -- Agnes Repplier

Am I a culture fit for this company?  Do my values and beliefs align with those of the organization?  These are two questions that many job seekers, employers, and employees are asking themselves these days.  Culture is the… Continue

The good, the bad and the ugly...

I have recently had the pleasure of managing a large volume recruitment project, and utilised partnerships with other agencies.  It ocurred to me to actually learn something from my range of experiences, from "Oh yay its her again - she's a fab recruiter" to "please, please, please don't let that be X on the phone!"

These are my perceptions of what not to do and what TO do!

Bad Unemployment News=Use More Temps

The good news from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is that the unemployment situation hasn’t gotten much worse over the past three months. As corporations slowdown their fulltime hiring, I predict that Temporary and 1099 Contract workers will be used more and more to help cover the limited GDP… Continue

Step 1 of your digital social recruiting program

I was recently revisiting some learning & development material I pulled together last year on the topic of Communication. Because of the enormity of this subject I made the decision at the time to break it down into two sessions. The first was the art of “Receiving” (a.k.a listening) the premise was that contrary to popular belief, the actual key ingredient to being a master communicator is the ability to listen and give 100% attention to others. Not, as many believe, the ability to…
