Job Seekers Iron out the Wrinkles

Job seekers can now add Botox to the job search checklist just after resume and coverletter. In an increasingly youth-obsessed culture, job seekers look to physical enhancements to appear more confident and youthful in the job search. These enhancements vary from hair coloring, weight loss, Botox, and even plastic surgery.

And as the number of unemployed climbs above the 16 million mark, job seekers are becoming more conscious of ways to differentiate themselves from other candidates… Continue

How To Overcome The Need For Closure

Do you see a connection?

This isn't the first time that the subject of closure has come up on this blog. In a previous post entitled Handling Non-acceptance, we told candidates not to focus on the things that they cannot change. Sometimes you will not know why you were not chosen for a… Continue

SHARE IF YOU DARE. What is the value of prior employment references?

“References available upon request.” We are all extremely familiar with the phrase, or some variation thereof, indicating that a host of credible witnesses stand at the ready to affirm a candidate’s praises. Some modern day camps including the University of California at Berkeley and Emory University in Atlanta no longer recommend including the classic expression as a part of a polished and professional CV. It is now assumed that if the candidate is as fabulous as they claim, they will be able… Continue

What you say online IS your personal brand!

Please read all my blog posts here

http://gregsavage.com.au/

I have been reading quite a bit lately about creating a personal brand online. The subject fascinates me, not least because I see so many people making a total hash of it by the inane things they post on Facebook, Twitter, blog replies, and to a lesser extent, LinkedIn.

But recently I had such a powerful personal example happen to me, that I feel compelled to share it with you. This small Twitter exchange… Continue

Great Article!

Hi Dan!

I so agree that we have to understand how vulnerable people are when they put themselves 'out there', so-to-speak. One thing I do with my candidates when I have to deliver nebulous feedback is to give a relationship analogy. Relationships - dating/interviewing, etc., are about chemistry - if it doesn't click, it is not the fault of either party, but simply an unexplainable feeling. When I explain disinterested feedback in that way, people seem to take it… Continue

Can job boards truly be ‘Web 2.0′?

At their core, most job boards are series of one-way communications: employer posts a job; job seeker responds to employer; employer does (or doesn’t) respond to job seeker. Each communication is distinct and separated by both time and method – some might even say fragmented.

Compare to a blog, social networking site, or Twitter: you send out a communication – and built into your communication are methods for readers to respond, as well as the expectation they will; readers DO… Continue

The Hub - Focus

Okay, Okay, I know that I have not posted in the last couple of weeks. In my experience, blogging is something that you need to get into the habit of doing and once you do it regularly, you will enjoy it. If you don't do it regularly, then you find it hard to start again!

I have experienced a couple of similar scenario's recently.

1) Walking

Last winter, when I started working at a regular office again, within 2 miles from home, I was… Continue

Fridays: Lost and (hope to be) Soon Forgotten

Sunday night you gear up for Monday. Packed the computer - check. Car keys are in place - check. Employee Badge in purse - check. We plan and schedule the most important meetings beginning of the week so we can then plan on spending the latter part of the week "catching up".

Mondays are always buzzing around with people chugging down coffee by the gallons asking others what they did over the weekend. Then comes Wednesday, hump day, and things… Continue

Recruiting excellence has a direct, and positive, impact on the bottom line. Increasing revenue per employee and saving turnover costs are two important benefits. Here are six recruiting best practices that will make a measureable difference… Continue

Are you a Gold Recruiter?

Recruiting is a highly competitive sport. All external recruiters reach for the top, hoping to become finally recognized as a Gold Recruiter.

Recruiting is probably not much of a team sport, based on my observations from a corporate HR desk. Perhaps it is a function of the general reward system, with commissions linked to placement. Perform well and you get paid well.

The competition suggests there are a lot of recruiters. Entry levels are relatively low. This is evident… Continue

Top 7 Mistakes that "Star" Recruiters do & "Good" recruiters dont

If you are a recruiter, and even if you are a star recruiter, make sure that you dont do the below mentioned mistakes as part of your recruitment process. They are criminal and not excusable. Just because your time to fill and cost to fill metrics are good does not mean that you can get away messing up with the process and system.

1. Not entering the data into the Applicant Tracking System.

Lot of so called star recruiters hide behind the excuse that data entry is too tedious… Continue

Excited about our feature printed in Recruiter

I had to share this with you all. Recruiter.co.uk has just ran a main feature about PeopleMaps' new product.

It talks about how Employers are able to receive unlimited access to a free online psychometric profiling service from PeopleMaps.

Now that's a very cool idea, don't you think?
