With cutbacks from the economy, more recruiters than ever are running a full desk. You may have been thrust suddenly into the role of Account Manager or Business Development in addition to your normal recruiting duties. If you're new to the world of staffing sales, then you may not know that not all job orders are created equal. In fact, you might be so anxious to get a "yes" out of a client that you forget all about some important factors that will predict the outcome of any job…

When was the last time you asked your job board customers what they want? Not just a one-off question to a few clients – but an systematic, organized survey of everyone who uses your site? Employers and job seekers?
A recurrent theme in the ‘job boards are dying’ blog posts that I see is a feeling by recruiters, employers, and job seekers that the ‘big boards’ are out of touch. In other words, they don’t know what their customers want. Now, I’m guessing that they would argue with…

I am in the process of developing a company website for my technology recruiting firm and am curious about costs. Can anyone give me an idea of the standard fee range to set up a fairly simple 4 - 5 page corporate website? Thanks.

Recruiting Blogs and Twitter allows for free conference access!
I have so many blessings to count. Recruiting Blogs, Twitter, and the friends I’ve made as a direct result is one of these vital connections. My connections on twitter and other sites have made it possible to attend conferences for free. As a professional in transition, this is an invaluable asset for which I am extremely grateful.

Have you ever seen the Fox hit television show, 24? It is gripping, action-packed and beyond unrealistic, yet I am hooked every season. 24’s hero and main man, Jack Bauer, is infamous for his 9 lives and vicious interrogation tactics that pry anything he wants out of his unsuspecting victims. Looking back on a few interviews I have been on…maybe Jack Bauer was the one who was sitting on the other side of the table, not the Hiring Manager.
There’s nothing worse than getting grilled by…

Are You A Natural Born Recruiter?
What does it take to recruit talent these days? Is it as easy as it once was? When all it took was to post an advertisement in the trades, newspaper, job boards, Craigslist, or better yet, to actually pick up a phone and put the word out to your “network” for referrals? Do you remember when you would actually post jobs on a piece of paper in the lunch room so employees could apply to them before you even started the recruiting process accepting…

Interesting week here in Melbourne town this week. A mid November heatwave, the likes of which have not been seen before I wouldn't think. Seriously in the pool this week, unheard of! Not complaining mind you.
Britney Spears arrived in Australia, to lipsinc her way through a National tour. Great strategy arriving, with decoy Britneys, body guards and a gratuitous amount of press coverage. Both good and bad.
Tiger Woods hits our fair shores, causing golfing havoc and…

So here's the deal. For the past couple of months, customers using our applicant tracking software have been asking for an efficient way to acknowledge candidates that don't make the cut. At first blush, this seemed easy enough. But, as our product team began researching and designing the feature, all sorts of complexities became evident.
Some interesting questions were raised. Questions like:

Like many of my fellow HR professionals this week, I have been busy reading all the fantastic blog posts related to the Human Resources (un)conference November 6-8th, 2009 in Louisville, KY. I have been blown away with the take-a-ways and conversation that HR Evolution has so far generated. I was particularly intrigued by our opening and closing sessions with regard to social media.
And then I had a thought. . .…

Two of the worst interviews I can recall in my recent history were both referred from one of my most successful, highest producing employees. Both candidates were abrasive, arrogant, and unfriendly, and neither interview lasted very long. At first the disparity between the unpleasant applicants and the accomplished referring employee left me somewhat perplexed. But later as I…

We've just been through a brutal economic storm. If you were sheltered, great - good for you.
But pay attention anyway, because this storm wreaked havoc on many of the people you'll meet in the next stages of your career. You are going to meet and work with a lot of people who've been burned. So many that the American business landscape is never going to look the same again.
At the height of the crisis, large companies fired thousands of employees to preserve profits. In many…
