This week, we're looking at axes and how they get ground
The interaction between social needs, politics and commerce is the very essence of community. Friction, the stuff that happens so that bigger ideas can be generated, comes from conflicting agendas. It should be no surprise that the blogging on RBC features lots of…

Yahoo! & Wikia - User Engaged Search
Yahoo! just announced, as part of their SearchMonkey initiative, the launch of Search Gallery on Wednesday and TechCrunch has a piece on the new and improved (“doesn’t suck”) release of Wikia Search. Both efforts, although they use very different methods, put tools in the hands of the community to offer a better search experience.

I think I learned something this morning. I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination. I understand how to use the 4 BASIC html tags (bold, italic, underline, bullets) - that's it. Being a guy that has recruited computer programmers for the past 8 years I've had numerous candidates ask me if I write code. The only code I know how to write is igpay atinlay. So here it goes, if I have a live link in the next sentence then I officially have learned one more programming trick. Ready? (Oh…

Have you ever wondered what you would do if you identified a passion outside of your current career? Dave Williams did and the result is, well, quite outstanding! If you haven't come across Dave previously let me tell you a bit about him. Dave was Senior Director for the Corporate Executive Board and led the Recruiting Roundtable for part of his eleven plus year tenure. At the time I was with a company that wasn't a member but did have the opportunity for a couple of really good conversations…

Recruiting on a developer position, I found the right guy and spend the time qualifying him. I have a list of where he's interviewing and my client isn't on it. Excellent sign because I know they're competitive when it comes to their packages and the rest on his list are so/so. He emails me to ask the name of the company and I reply. This is his response:
"Oh god no! [edited] is the anti-christ. I have (and many developers I know) avoid that company like the plague. I would rather… Continue

Periodically, I receive (either solicited or unsolicited) an e-mail with a resume that also has one or more reference letters attached. I must admit that I find these to be of little to no value to me. While I don’t offer this opinion unsolicited to the individual, once I have a follow up conversation, the candidate will usually ask my opinion about it, or whether they should send them out on their own when they are dealing directly with a company.
While reference letters have their place,…

Gallery: 10 most annoying programs on the Internet

The Internet has brought us many joys. It's rewritten the rules of business and pleasure.
And pain. For it allows what may have seemed like bright ideas at the time ('let's use it to make sure our customers have the latest software', for example) to turn into a stinking pit of misery — usually, but by no means always, after…

Screenshots: Google's Android comes to life

Google demonstrated its Android mobile-phone software Wednesday at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco. This is a view of the home screen, demonstrated by Steve Horowitz, Android's engineering…

I have a challenge that I welcome any suggestions.
I have a client that is in need of manufacturing employees such as Surface Mount Operators and Die Mount Operators and Automated Measuring Machine Operators. These positions require the individuals to have prior experience.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I might find such individuals?
Thank you
~Dawn

So I've mentioned here and there that I'm putting together a toolkit for Recruiters - a dynamic reference for Online searches, social networking, blogging guide, etc. If you were on my team you'd know that I store many of these items on a centralized and shared server for all to reference. One of the documents I'm working on is a listing of search engines that I use and what the functionality or specialty is of each.
A few days ago I received an email from a reader of…
