In an ideal world an Employer would open an application, input their job description and candidate requirements, press “Go” and it would produce a map with the 3 best candidate matches, their CVs, current locations and contact numbers.
Though it sounds great, there are some problems with this model: candidates would need to give their permission to…

In my opinion failure to prepare for anything you do in life, never mind my job as a recruiter or for an interview is a fatal sin.
Abraham Lincoln said “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four hours sharpening the axe". This is the way any successful person should prepare for every battle. Don’t get me wrong I haven’t always been someone…

It goes without saying - every move you make has the potential to shape your career for years to come. From time to time, when you are not looking for a new role - well curious folks come knocking on the door and try to lure you away. In these economic times, many of us have not had that happen for some time and perhaps, we go from place to place, company to company seeking a haven from the economic storm brewing all around us, even facing a unique opportunity or two, where the money may…

Last week, to put it mildly, was a difficult week. Several weeks of sourcing, countless phone screens, a job description that changed more times than Lady Gaga changes hairstyles and a group of hiring managers that think they’re the Second Coming culminated in a hiring event on Thursday. Six open positions and eight prescreened/qualified applicants. The odds were in my favor, or so I thought.
By the end of the day I was feeling pretty good about what we had accomplished. …

“Recruiting is hard. It’s just finding the needles in the haystack. You can’t know enough in a one-hour interview. So, in the end, it’s ultimately based on your gut. How do I feel about this person? What are they like when they’re challenged? I ask everybody that: ‘Why are you here?’ The answers themselves are not what you’re looking for. It’s the meta-data.” – Steve Jobs
Finally someone has come out and said what we in the business of recruiting and talent acquisition have known all…

Recruitment is all about a brief moment in time. 2 weeks before the job was advertised a better candidate may have been available but isn’t now. 2 weeks after the job is filled a better candidate may come onto the market but it’s too late. We cannot change the fleeting nature of the moment but we can make sure that we get the most out of it at the time.
So when the hunt’s on do you choose Sniffer dogs or an Eagle?
The traditional method is…

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, about Facebook. And as a result, I found myself watching the “Social Network” movie for a second time!
It’s interesting because I do have a Facebook page, but only because friends & family and those from the past continued to send invites to connect. Very seldom do I log in. I don’t play games, write on someone’s wall or read updates.
So it’s obvious that I am not yet a real fan or user of Facebook! I see it as the old beer…

Well 2nd worst. The first one was when I landed a meeting with this startup in NYC that gad this preposterous idea to start a whole channel devoted to Food!? We didn't get the account but as I got in the elevator with my associate I said "Yeah, like anyone is going to watch a 'Food Network' "
This past Friday we were called in to make peace with the HR department of an old client. My partner has been recruiting for them since they were 20 people and now they have 2000. So…

There has been a few posts recently on refferal recruiting, and whether technology and employer branding initiatives will make every employee a recruiter for the company. That's not a view I hold. The best people to recruit are recruiters, Their job is to identify the best candidates for a post, manage the hiring manager and both sides of the process and close all parties…

I see so many companies waste a ton of money and time on advertisements , job boards, ATS’s , specialized databases, magazine placements, search firms and much more but they neglect the most powerful tool at the disposal of corporate HR”s arsenal: “the employee referral program". Dont' get me wrong we sometime need to use everyone of these approaches to find talent but…

This cool service was launched in June 2011 but I’ve only just stumbled across it.

In our last blog post, we discussed why you should get job descriptions for all your job orders, especially your contracting job orders. But how do you get job descriptions and what should be in them?
Well, typically, the how is easy. Simply ask your client for a job description when…

When a recruiter comes to us for a quote, one of the first things we ask them for is a job description for the position they are trying to fill. But even if you don't have a back-office asking you for one, you should get a job description for all of your job orders, especially for contract placements.
Job descriptions allow you…

One of the perks of contract staffing is that, on top of the hourly rate you earn as your contractor works, you can also earn a nice conversion fee if your client decides to hire the contractor direct. So what would you say if we told you there is a whole crop of workers out there that, if placed as contractors, could increase your conversion fees?
Well, according to Workforce, there is -…

Look - I get it. We all hope that somewhere, some time a client is going to become aware of what we do and connect with us on it. I'm in sales. I'm all about it.
But here's what bugs me. I was thinking about this a few minutes ago while finishing off a whole chicken from the WalMart deli. (I started it last night by the way.....)
So someone wants to slip an ad in here. What's the big deal? Am I so uptight that my eyes can not deal with someone wanting to…
