Last year FuseJobs launched to the UK market. The site has an interesting business model, which is a cross between a niche job board and a vertical search engine.
This week we took the opportunity to speak to Director Amanda Lacey about the site, why the company selected the ‘entry-level jobs’ sector and the challenges in aggregating job…

Although I have been a contingency recruiter for almost 297 years, OK maybe not quite that long, I have of recent been seeing less commitment from hiring managers to contingency recruiters. I have given serious thought moving my agency to retained in it's entirety or at least in part. Has anybody made this transition? If so what caveats, models to follow, tools etc can you advise me to look at and possibly incorporate into this process? I'd appreciate all responses, pros and…

i went to a job fair /career expo (full disclosure: i work for
Jobing.com) and i am always interested how recruiters plan for their attendance at job fairs. i know that i prepare extensively for our job fairs from 10-12 days out from the event.
i use resume search heavily before the event and utilize our job postings/videos/company website information to excite candidates about the opportunities available with our organization. i am extremely…

Sometimes you just have to laugh at how people approach trying to secure employment. The following was posted at the top of a candidate's resume on Dice:
No Recruiters, DIRECT HIRE ONLY!
If you are a recruiter or work for a recruiting company, please read carefully.
You DO NOT have permission to submit me to jobs EVER!
You DO NOT have permission to add my information to your database.
If I find out that you have used my name or resume… Continue

I know it's hard to believe. But here's the quote from the article:
"Boring jobs turn our mind to autopilot, say scientists - and it means we can seriously mess up some simple tasks."
But, here's the cool part of this research:
Monotonous duties switch our brain to "rest mode", whether we like it or not, the researchers report in Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences.
They found mistakes can be predicted up to 30 seconds before we make… Continue

Working in the Talent Acquisition arena, I remain in awe about how we march on with circa-1930s marketing processes despite the fact that if there is any business function that knows so much about their given 'customers', it's us.
I often ask the following question of Recruiters, Recruiting Managers, and even Directors of Talent Acquisition:
"
What kind of information do you observe and store on the attitudes and… Continue

To be honest, I have not much to say about this milestone. Not much because it feels sort of “enormous” that so may people have found their way here and have continued to come back.
The term “visitor” is each time someone comes to the site. So if you have come here two times a week for the almost three years since the blog started you would be .3% of…

I keep being told that the economy is in a recession and that it is going to be tough for everyone currently looking for employment. I do not believe that. This is a country of opportunity and it always will be. The resolve of the employer and employee will be tested today more than ever. Employers will have to start focusing on the employee who is the number one asset in a company. While the employee, will have to prove there value more than ever.
Tips for an…

Dear Claudia,
If time is the constraint, how can you analyze a candidate’s level of commitment? I work mostly on corporate-to-corporate contract positions (temporary placements), and I need to submit the resume to the preferred vendor or client within a couple of hours of the requisition opening. How can I avoid vanishing candidates?

Most recruiters by nature aren’t trying to offend people as they go about the job of recruiting candidates for their client customers. However our quest to find the perfect person leads us to find many more really talented “close but no cigar” candidates that after showcasing our opportunity to and gaining their sincere interest we must now let them know that they just aren’t a good fit (insert reason here).
Of course, some people take this better than others, but generically…

1. Both are flat.
2. Both apparently have no hope of rising.
3. They have no spice.
4. They're full of holes.
5. You don't want to be involved with either of them anymore than absolutely necessary.

I'm looking for someone in Toronto to host a full day seminar of the telephone names sourcing course "
The Magic in the Method" this summer. What we'll need: a room that will seat 50 w/ a projector/sound system
I'll give away 3 free seats for the provision and oh, by the way, if anyone wants to sponsor lunch for us, I'll give them 2 seats too.
This arrangement has…

Every now and then we’ll have a client who will talk to us about their “gut feelings” following an interview with one of our candidates.
Quite frankly, that’s one of the more common challenges we run into as a Recruiting Firm especially when dealing with new business partners.
Consequently, it’s one of the most common hiring mistakes made by employers and I’d say it’s even more pronounced when it comes to hiring Sales Professionals.
Has this happened to…

I feel I am a star recruiter for a few reasons but not for volume. (Although we have placed hundreds and hundreds of people over a 12 year period.)
1. I am only as good as my trusted network who have truly become friends and I thank them first and foremost!! (You know who you are :-)
2. I take the time to really understand my client's business before I accept a retained search assignment, and only if I believe I am the best recruiter for the job. After 12 years in…

What I found interesting about this site was much more than just its goal to help people find jobs in some of these awesome (another great word!) places - but its focus on the community of job seekers that have developed during the hunt.
