Why am I a smart recruiter- after 20 years i've learned a few rules I live by each day:

:

1. Serve the candidate and the client

2. Have 2 ears to listen and only 1 mouth to speak

3. Each person is unique surprisingly fascinating

4. Identify what the candidate is really looking for and find that.

5. Always make it fun and interesting to speak with me

6. Respect-Care-Honest-Energy

7. All we have is our reputation. Take good care of it.

8. Never sell a… Continue

  • A new technique or platform for languages that you already know (like multithreading, mobile development, etc.)

Social networking recruiting in a coordinated campaign

Check out my quick video blog about the recent buzz about social networking and how it can be used for recruitment. I’ve spent many long nights compiling thoughts and strategies about social networking recruiting and think this will be the start of a video blog series on my findings (should anyone care to hear them).

Most importantly is the idea of having a targeted, coordinated campaign that connects your recruiting efforts… Continue

When I Was a Baby Sourcer

When I was a baby sourcer, and didn’t have the crutch LinkedIn to jumpstart my searches, I’d go to the Internet (this was before ZoomInfo - formerly Eliyon) and the other Internet strippers really got started, and I would google (back then I think it was dogpile or altavista I used before I kinda’ understood the magic of algorithms and the brains behind them) the name of the company I was trying to penetrate and the title I was working on. Mind you,… Continue

Bounty Jobs

I tried Bounty Jobs in the last half of last year and while many search assignments were a waste of time, I found two great new clients who I made placements with and have a continuing relationship. I don't engage on the ones that have low fee structures. I think you just have to be careful but both of these clients did not have a problem with communicating with me directly once I started presenting viable candidates.

Obama to Add 3 Million Jobs -- Are You Ready?

[This post was originally posted on a sister site - http://careerfliexroads.com. I think its as important for recruiters as it is for job seekers. What do you think?]

According to a recent NY Times article, President Elect Obama has upped his goal of providing new jobs in the first two years of his presidency from 2.5 million to 3 million. Many of these jobs will be in… Continue

Ami G. on Monday: The Sirens of Search

I have been on a quest to find a search engine that will know what I'm looking for without me ever having to input a search term, let alone search strings, symbols or syntax. No, not natural language but something even less tiresome...brain waves perhaps.

More than that, I want the aggregated results to be served in context, arranged in folders by media and domain, sorted by date and relevancy,… Continue

Bountyjobs

I found this site as I was searching the internet for additional information on BOUNTYJOBS. I thought I would add my info to see if it helps anyone. I have found that if the company will communicate with you and take your calls giving you the opportuntiy to create a relationship, they are worth working with. The companies that do not do this I feel are just building their recruiting databases for free. I have even been told by 4 VP of HR's that this is the only reason they use BOUNTY.

On… Continue

Pride without Predjudice, well maybe a little.

This is the time of the year where you catch up with family and friends, share in the news and fun that this season brings. You get to see some certain family and friends who you probably won't see for another 12 months, but you are still connected, and somehow the time that passes under that well used bridge doesn't seem to matter. You are constantly surprised at how much… Continue

What makes me a Smart Recruiter ... Am I a smart recruiter?

Let's see... what makes me a 'smart recruiter'?

Jason has asked for 5 reasons why I feel I am a smart recruiter ... well, I'm polite, consummately professional and courteous. Whenever I contact someone, I will always ask for a referral (even if I know the person I'm speaking with is 'right'). I always ask a potential candidate if this is 'a good time to talk'. I never lie to candidates or clients (no ruses). My telephone is my friend and every time someone says 'no', I know that I… Continue

This kind of recruiting is truly not for the recruiting professionals

I'm not opposed to offering some type of incentive to serve or secure a customer. But when I see these cheap Internet sites like Dyak coming along and wanting us to work for 8 % or less, not collecting fees for 90 days and without any type of commuication, I am appalled at what they are trying to drive this industry level down to.

For 23 years I have been a proud recruiter and although things are tough I would rather close my doors than work at bottom feeder levels.

I… Continue

Hello Maureen, I am the Business Development and Recruiting Manager for XYZ. Interview Questions

This one is more for those who are doing the interviewing out there in the PR world...the shot callers. When meeting with potential team additions, keep in mind that candidates are screening you, just as you are screening them. So, make the interview questions relevant, conversational, and, if possible, inspiring enough to evoke meaningful responses so that you can begin the process of truly determining if the person sitting across from you could someday be on your side of the table with a… Continue

Creating Win - Win Relationships for 2009

In spite of our amazing technological advance, the work of an

organization is still accomplished by people. It is people who

interface with the customer, make the product, deliver the

service, plan and coordinate how work gets done, improve

processes and systems, ensure quality, and return a profit.

Technology has provided us with better tools, but it is still

people who do the work of an organization and are ultimately

responsible for its… Continue

How long should your resume be?

A friend of mine came by over the weekend to go over his job search plan. He had paid a good deal of money to a company that helped him rewrite his resume and then they blasted out hard and soft copies to thousands of companies.

Well, he hasn't gotten the results he had hoped for, so he was asking for advice. I was shocked to see that this company recommended that he limit his resume to one page! He has over 20 years of experience and I have always thought the one page rule was for… Continue
