Many people have fallen victim to the ever fragmenting employment industry. High job board costs force companies to explore alternative avenues for advertising available positions and the scattering of jobs force job seekers to post their resume to multiple employment sites. Millions of jobs are left unfilled, millions of job seekers are left out of work, and thousands of job boards are cashing-in on the failures of both.
Overhead and value perception have created an unbalanced range…

The other night I had the pleasure of being on the HR Happy Hour show with Steve Boese. I'm a bit of a fish out of water when getting heavily into HR talk because I'm not an HR guy. I'm a recruiting business guy. However, it was fun and there were several topics that came up that I think are worth exploring in much greater detail. As an aside, one that did not come up was the story of the night Tracy Tran missed the game of the century in order to save the planet. A night I'll never forget and…

I'm not a handy man. I try, but to be bluntly honest... I'm useless, light globes I can do, mow the lawn... OK, cut stuff up.. OK, but anything useful, work on the car, fixing broken things in general.. no way! Much to the distress of my wife and probably embarrassment of my Dad, who is the most MacGyver type guy I know.
However I was partaking in some blokey (for those in the US, read REAL MANLY) outdoor activity, had the women folk inside tending to the young 'uns. OK I was outside…

Far too many position descriptions are complicating the recruitment process, rather than helping recruiters to recruit the right person. Good recruitment always starts by having a crystal clear understanding of what the role is (and not is). This is also fundamental for any advertisement, as role clarity is the key for finding the right person.
As I indicated in a previous blog, having a well-written role competency profile is critical - not a flowery or generic description of tasks…

Greetings to all,
I'm in the throes of starting up my own recruitment concern and would very much appreciate any kind of input, advice, or 'dire warnings' that may be forth coming from this community. What I do need at the current moment are individuals that would be interested in helping by completing a survey. If so then please respond by sending an e-mail to tonytonello@gmail.com with
'Send Survey Questionaire' in the subject line. Also, if you would like to have feedback…

Imagine this.
A new customer introduces you and your firm to an opportunity where, if you successfully fill their most challenging requirement, it will open up numerous doors to other opportunities within their organization. If you land the placement, you will regarded as a “Staffing Firm above all Staffing Firms” – one that not only found their hardest to find resource but also one that uniquely separated themselves from the packs of other staffing vendors that have struck out on…

A few weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night and it was obvious that something was weighing heavily on my mind. Actually, it was this free-to-fee recruiting business model that I read about on a LinkedIn group.
This new model appears very practical, it fulfilled a need, solves a career progression challenges and could possibly stimulate jobs growth and pull the economy out of this downward spiral.
But it was the perception and the lack of clarity on how to sell…

From Chuck Hudgins' Blog:
$ apropos
Over the course of the last few posts, I have fleshed out what I take to be the important aspects/core concepts of cloud recruiting. Two of the main points were:
Making use of social networking technology (using the same technology that makes up the cloud to connect others to the cloud)
Understanding that, in order to harness the power of free and apply… Continue

It is obvious that there are companies out there that adapt so well to the ever changing environments. Some companies have a culture where adapting to technology almost comes as second nature. Yet there are other companies refusing to accept what is changing around them. The big question is.... How does a company cope with changing its culture?
My company is strong in being ahead of the curve when it comes to products and services. LexisNexis was the first to create legal research…

RecruiterGuy has been on all three sides of the recruiting process. Three sides? Sure, I’ve been a third party recruiter, a corporate recruiting manager, and a candidate.
Today we are discussing the use of third party recruiters as a sourcing and recruiting partner. Wait! Stop rolling your eyes! Remember I’ve been on both sides of the desk. Currently as a contract recruitment consultant often I am on both sides in the same company.
Why would you want to include contingent,…

I used to work with this guy that would leave early on Fridays. He was a complete slacker. While the rest of us busted our humps to get resumes to clients, he’d belly up to the bar across the street. His excuse? Kids! And, he had a gaggle of them too.
Businesses lose $1.4 Billion Dollars annually to employee absenteeism due to childcare problems.
Now that I have a kid and one on the way, I get a free hall pass. Woohoo!
But, what about you buddy? You…

A couple of weeks ago I was reminded about Hans Rosling and his bubble chart that animates itself. As charts go, it's pretty fun to watch. So I asked myself last weekend if I could try the chart out on some recruiting metrics just to see how it would look.
Much to the chagrin of my kids on a sunny summer day, I tested two different kinds of animated bubble charts. The first from a software company, and then the Google Bubble chart tool.
Turns out that creating an animated…

When we hear about a company hiring a recruiter; someone who would hire or employ people for job openings in your business, the right man for the job would be one with an intellect, who knows how to deal with people, is familiar with your company's demands and how your business works ie. your business' budget, work environment, company culture, department need, has salesmanship and negotiating skills and most of all, is resourceful.
Whether or not you need to 'hire' a man of such…

One common complaint many consultants have is that some sections of the client’s team is not able to provide enough time or resources that are critical to the success of the assignment. This happens for a number of reasons, the more serious ones stemming from resistance to an outsider’s involvement in a company’s affairs and absence of the ‘brownie point’ system of work (as the consultant neither appraises or is appraised by anyone in the organization he or she is dissociated from one of the…

Staying fluid to the changing times is as necessary as the air you breathe to support your life. Change is constant. Inclement weather to clear skies, poverty to abundance, fear to certainty, unemployed to employed, in order to remain current you need to embrace change like an old familiar friend. Remaining flexible and being confident that change is imminent whichever way the wind is blowing will help you. Go ahead and bend really, you won’t break.
Your career will take shape when…
