We all know recruiters need to adapt. That is now trite to say. So then, why are so many recruiters around the world still stuck in the same tactics that they used in 1999?
That won’t be sustainable. In fact recruiting 2009 style won’t cut it either.
What do I mean? Who am I talking about?
If you want to know if I am talking about…

It's wizardry in action, it's the core staffing inner fight, it's the need that comes when a recruiter finds their desk swamped with 40+ Requisitions, as I find my desk these days.
It's when you have delivered everything you have and then some, only to be side-stepped by the reality that, individuals, free choice, managerial intent, senior executives, and others…

I get hit up to take a lot of surveys from a lot of different sources.
Sometimes vendors of various products or services lure survey respondents with offers to take a brief survey and receive a free copy of their latest white paper, special report or e-book about the “War for Talent” or some other nonsensical topic.
While I’m not particularly tempted to participate due to publication prizes at the end, I do have certain geeky curiosity about…

It all starts with hiring the right people.

One of the biggest problems in the American workforce today is disengagement, which means – as you might surmise – employees do not feel…

Some interesting developments over the past month, including a new round of financials from the publicly-held job boards and some VC money going into the market.

Recruiting and hiring are highly competitive fields, and those parties on both sides of the transaction have a vested interest in getting ahead. Companies are eager to beat out their competitors by hiring the best possible people, and meanwhile, job hopefuls are looking to do everything they can to find the ideal positions. They want more money, better benefits and so…

In less than one year, I cancelled my LinkedIn premium account. It wasn't because of the cost; two of my placements were the direct result of using their In-mail feature. So why did I forfeit over 75 unused In-mail credits? Let’s just say that I was spending way too much time on the site. Looking at profiles all day long took the excitement out of work; it made…

You would be hard pressed to find a candidate today who isn’t familiar with and prepared for a behavioral interview. A behavioral interview is based on the premise that past performance predicts future behavior. It’s designed to elicit information about…

Not long ago I wrote my first blog post on my observations and experiences as a job seeker throughout my career “My Time as a Job Seeker”, in the piece I mentioned just briefly the agony and frustration we go through to create…

Job growth hasn’t been this strong since 2006 and economists expect the unemployment rate to drop within the future years. Job boards are the most common method when finding and applying for jobs, but how do you know that this is the “best” method.
After doing some research of my own: CareerXroads, a recruiting site, have said just 12 percent of all hires can be…

I don't get it. I truly don't understand what LinkedIn is doing. I do know that they are gaining new members at an astounding rate EVERY DAY. They are gaining more market share and becoming more and more invincible. No one can compete with LinkedIn. Google Plus tried to compete with them. Can you say #Fail? I tell you what else LinkedIn is doing. They are pissing…

Does #TChat really hate recruiting? Frankly, I don't know. What I do know is that my original post has caused many people to voice their strong opinions one way or the other - which in a sense is what I wanted to accomplish. The #TChat team heard the opinions of an especially vocal faction and are in the process of making a few changes that in my opinion will make their product better.
So - we'll see...

If you’ve been in recruiting for very long, you may have heard the term “purple squirrel.” I remember the first time I heard it. It was probably my first week in marketing training for agency recruiting. I came to my mentor smiling ear to ear with my new job order. He looked at it and said, “Do you hunt squirrel?” Confused I said, “Uh no, but my grandfather used to…

Each of us is not responsible for our first thought, but we are responsible for our next action. This simple mantra not only can create powerful shifts in thinking, it can also allow us to see things that were previously unseen.
The video in this post of two women experiencing their first flight is a powerful example of how anyone, anywhere, can see the wonder in life. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, like seeing or experience something for the very…

Here are some key pain points we've heard of from recruiters and HR managers who don’t use any recruitment software. Are we missing any??
Resumes
- Resumes in multiple computers in shared / email folders so can’t do a universal search
- Low security – anyone can delete, forward, or share resumes
- Data loss –…

Sure, only 47% of the American workforce over the age of 16 are women (a gender disparity that’s been gradually closing over the past decade), but you wouldn’t know that from the looks of your average HR department. There’s a reason we…

A common questions we hear from recruiters who are new to contract staffing is “Where do I go for contract job orders?” Conventional wisdom has been to go to the hiring manager rather than human resources (HR).
That's because the direct hire and contract hiring processes were often handled separately, so much so that HR may not have been aware of…
